For as long as I can remember, I've always had random thoughts pop into my head about a past experience/scenario/what-have-you. I used to think nothing of it. Now, it seems like it's been amplified in intensity about 100 times...I can't go 5 minutes without some stupid random thought popping into my head, about something that happened years ago. Lately they have been very depressing and upsetting thoughts, that result in my banging my head on a hard surface trying to get the thoughts out. It's as if they are being read aloud to me by myself. It has taken a TREMENDOUS toll on me.

Has anyone ever had this happen? Is there a solution? What could be going on here?

:( :( :(

This happens to me too, no matter how hard I try to put a past person/situation out of my memory....I don't know if there's anything to do other than letting time take it's toll. :?

Not to sound cold, but: this is interesting.

My spouse, who is somehow far from neurotypical but does not have AS, does the same thing but without the head-banging. All of a sudden I'll hear some random phrase, followed by a cuss word. I can rarely get the first bit, so i'll say something like "I didn't hear you" and get told that "it's nothing, just something that happened a long time ago." It doesn't help for me to push the issue... anger gets directed at me instead.

I don't know what to tell you about the thoughts, but I'd recommend finding something to replace the head-banging. My usual technique is to go throw something: rocks into the ocean, wadded up socks into the laundry hamper, a ball against a wall. I throw as hard as i can and as long as I can, and eventually I have less of an urge to haul off and hit things.
