I am in second year university right now, and I'm feeling really depressed. I'm a political science/history double major and I'm trying to pick up French, but even with a tutor its not going very well. I am very anxious about the next few years while i am in university. I'm petrified of not doing well and at the same time wasting my parents money; but if i don't stay in school then i won't be able to get a good job. I can't really make lasting friendships because of my lack of social skills and never had a girlfriend. I am worried about whats going to become of me later down the road. I feel its easier to just die. I wish I was never born. it doesn't help that I have Asperger's and i try not to dwell on it but its very difficult when you know the reason you can't make friends or have a normal life is because you have a mental disorder. I don't always suffer from depression and doubt I have chronic depression. I don't feel depressed when I'm by myself but when I am at school, or thinking about school, or doing school work, or basically in a position where i have to be with people I am very depressed. I can't really speak with my parents because they don't fully understand what its like to be in my position. I have suicidal thoughts but am too afraid to act on it. I am currently on Prozac that I've been on for years but it still doesn'rt stop depression from occurring.

Anti depressants help a lot but a very big part of it is understanding what you can handle. Stress is a major trigger for Depression. Maybe you are trying to do too much. Can you get your education at a slower pace? It sounds like you're overloaded.

Antidepressants are only mood enhancers; although they're useful in combination with other treatment, no matter how emotionally lifted you are, the drugs won't change your view on the world all by themselves. Pulling yourself from cycles of depressive thought is a difficult task, but eating well, sleeping enough and doing things that really make you feel good can help tremendously. Doing something that gives you a sense of acheivement, at whatever you're good at, can put value back into you, so you no longer feel worthless, which from your post I assume is how you feel.

When one turns away from self pity, pain only makes them stronger. I hope you find yourself.
