I'm currently renting a condominium my parents bought. I'm getting ready to move to a different location for 4 and a half months. While I'm away my father is renting the place to someone else which means most of my stuff has to be stored away. I don't know how normal people deal with moving so easily but for me the experience is traumatically stressful. I'm leaving Sunday morning and tonight I already feel like I can't relax no matter what I do.

My father is doing most of the work for me but even so I feel horrible. I'm constantly on edge just waiting for him to complain and b*tch at me that I'm not doing enough work and I feel like I could explode any moment. He wanted to pack my books and my computer away tonight but I refused since I can't relax without being able to read or go online. I just can't handle having nothing to do if I'm not ready to sleep.

Anyways I feel like I'm just not built to handle life the way other people are. Everythings just so overwhelming/nauseating/cluttered. I'm completely freaking out thinking about where I'm going to be able to put all these little do-dads and loose ends without losing things. I'm somewhat OCD and the thought of losing certain things fills me with dread. I'm literally feeling like I could vomit now. :(

I know that feeling well. I can go from one place to another when I must, but "dead time" in-between can be maddening. If you possibly can, tell you dad about your specific concerns, then help as best you can and keep a couple of books and maybe some kind of electronic game aside to help carry you over the gap. As long as you make your best effort, maybe he will reciprocate with a little extra consideration of some kind.

Maybe your cell phone service can be set up for internet right away.

Ya not alone, I'm terrible at handling big changes like that too! I go crazy about a week or even a month leading up to them and I constantly worry....and when it happens, after i get used to it i like it. Say, when i moved away from home i was terrified, but now i love it and find going back to my parents place wierd :? I guess some people handle change better than others. I try to see it as change is something that you can count on to always be there.

My partner and I moved three months ago.

One of the things that I did was to measure the rooms ahead of time and start planning out where stuff was going to go, particularly in my bedroom. Having a floor plan made it easier. There are also 3D room designers (IKEA has one online) that let you set up a 3D model of a room, which makes it great for visualising what your new place will be like.

Probably a little late for something like that, for you--but if you can do something on paper that plans out where your stuff will be, that might provide you with a little bit of reassurance that everything can be where it needs to be.

It's more the task of moving all my stuff that freaks me out than the change itself. I'm very protective of my books and other things of mine. I'm very attached to my things. Moving is always a chance for something to get wrecked or damaged. If my house ever burned down I'd probably commit suicide.
