My least favorite Monday morning is when a child (we have two) proves to be too ill to go to school. It's like my brain screams in agony "I'm robbed of my silence, my solitude AGAIN!" All four of us have been unusually often ill this fall, and it is really getting me down. There are things I need to do that require what I call "long thoughts", and with an ill kid it feels like there is no room for my thoughts to grow and find their form. Yesterday the older one was ill, today they are both. :-(

I've made myself my favorite kind of latte, complained loudly in my standard social networking environment, indulged in yogurt with sugar and berries (normal mornings I eat natural yogurt with my muesli) and am working myself up to reading aloud to the kids - stories always comfort me, the more fantastic the better. But none of these help very much today.

I really could use a couple of cyber-hugs now.

Thanks for listening!

Ditto! :)

I totally know what you mean. The strategy I have adopted ( for many years now ) is to maintain certain dietary routines which reduce the number of times that we fall ill.

We rarely eat concentrated proteins ( meat, fish, eggs, cheese ), and concentrated carbohydrates ( rice, corn, potatoes, etc ), at the same meal, ( the "Hay" diet ), which is very effective, and if/when anyone looks like they are developing a cold/flu they exclude all dairy produce ( dairy tends to stimulate catarrh production, which significantly effects how bad a cold will be ). We also regularly eat raw and cooked garlic in dishes, which helps to keep viral and bacterial infections at bay. And of course the less sugar the better.

It is also possible that frequent illness is the result of psychological problems, difficulties at school for instance, and therefore that finding out if everything is alright there may be useful.

When my son does fall ill I just about put up with it, but find myself becoming increasingly impatient and irritable if it lingers, or if he is ill again soon after, so the preventative approach through diet is absolutely crucial.

I hope they fall asleep a lot today, and feel well again very soon! :D

Thanks for the support! They are still both sneezing & coughing, but fairly happy and active, and mostly keeping each other occupied.

I'm in a better mood also - I guess it takes me a day or two to adjust my expectations and adapt to ignoring background noise. I am not at my most effective intellectually, but at least I & we get things done (they are well enough to help with some of the ordinary chores).

(((((cyberhugs)))))) if you should need them!

Hope they get healthy soon, because this is a time of year you have to watch out for yourself. :)

I didn't get that - why is this time of the year special? Other than the obvious, of course - that it is depressingly dark in the Northern hemisphere, which makes it hard, sometimes, to carry disappointments with good grace. I can't wait for Winter Solstice! :sunny:

What I really meant to say was that many, many people get sick around winter time.

Oh, sorry - I'm pretty good at missing or misunderstanding the point, especially if it's about something blatantly obvious. We addies often cannot fathom simplicities - our brain(function)s resemble The Flying Spaghetti Monster too much...
