Even if you are not musical..
It might help your brain slip out of the sad/obsessive mode you you will be able to make yourself feel better...
I was feeling really crappy...and then I suddenly wrote a song...and then I wrote sketches for a couple more...and now I feel somewhat better and more motivated in general.

This is something I am prone not to think about when I am feeling terribly stuck and loopy and depressed.

"Feeling stuck and loopy, need take a ... oops!"

Or listen to a song that'll bring you up.

Also, air-guitar helps me TREMENDOUSLY. As are whisper-scream-singing :D.

Music heals all wounds. Writing poems and stories can help as well.

Writing songs and listening to music are my main ways of dealing with unpleasant moods / thoughts too.

It works so well, I'm content and (overly) optimistic most of the time.

Problem is that my songs are mostly really disturbing / sad / angry. People seem confused by the contrast between this and my light-hearted, always joking around personality.

I should tell them all to start playing with music or making art when they're in a bad mood - then they'll understand.
