Is cognitive therapy just another word for talk therapy? When you talked about this woman monologuing it made me think of people in AA who go on and on and on. I was in a group as part of after care when I got out of rehab. The group moderator got seriously ill and so we had a succession of replacements. I could really tell how much a moderator contributes to the success of the group. Maybe you could take the moderator aside and tell her you don't feel everyone in the group is getting equal time. The moderator can direct the conversation to a certain extent.

Yes. I have a lot of real work to get done. Wasteful attention hogs rile me bad. There's always someone who just uses therapy time to tell us everything they've done since last week. And then there's people who when you tell them how to sort their life out, they go away and not bother implementing any of the ideas you've given them, and then they forget them, and they come back time and again with the same problems. Often in my group they just rehash the same things every week, in a loop, forever and ever.

I sound a bit mean. I know they've got problems too.

I haven't any advice. I just thought I'd join in moaning.

Basically. We all get little worksheets to see how we're doing and the way we view ourselves and then share it if we have enough time..

Yeah I use to go to AA meetings and run into that, at least it was free lol. Use to annoy me so much.

I probably could do that, it just makes me ill in the idea of having to confront people especially one on one. I'm not sure what to say or how to put it. That's part of my problem is not knowing how to navigate or respond in a setting without a written set of social rules. The guy there is kind of in lala land. He's also not an easy person to understand unless he's reiterating from a book or asking.

^ Actually, the moderator would probably want to use it as an opportunity for you to deal with your difficulties with confrontation,i.e. have you say something to the person during group time and then mediate the reactions, which would get the point across, but would be awfully uncomfortable for you. Frankly, I was in some sort of therapy off and on since 3rd grade (because I was withdrawn) and while I did learn a lot, it didn't change anything.
