I have been talking to this therapist and from day one she has been mean. she pretends to be nice and is insulting me in socially acceptable ways. she told me i had borderline personality disorder. i agreed with that but she cannot diagnose me without assessing me and she is not qualified enough to give a diagnoses. she is not a phd she only has 4 years of training.

so she said i had borderline and then told me no one wants anything to do with borderlines. i know this but it was rude to say to me. she also said no one wants anything to do with me because i am self absorbed and talk to much. all she ever tells me is negative stuff.

I was also UNdiagnosed with ADHD by a phd and and this therapist(who only has a 4 year degree) was sure i had it. I dont think i have it . the doctor didn't. but she said the adhd was the cause of all my problems. I dont know why it bothers me so much that she wouldent listen . but i think she wants to say i have adhd because that is her specialty.

I toled her about my sensory issues and that movement bothers me but she wouldn't stop. and she kept telling me i was doing everything wrong. and i got stressed that she woudlent listen to me when i gave evedence that i was undiagnosed with adhd. she said oh now your upset because i am tellign you what you dont want to hear. i got a rage inside of me at that point. i was not upset by that i was upset because she was pussing me over the edge by not listenign to me and by refusing to stop doing things that upset my sensory issues.

when she left she had a smug look on her face like she had won somehow. and that pissed me off even more. it is her attitude towards me that i hate. she looks down on me and is rude to me than looks smug about winning an argument. when she waled out the door i had a melt down i hit my head over and over and was screaming. i hated myself for not stickign up for myself and i hated her for making me feel so bad.

Is it jsut me or is this lady just trying to be mean?
Should i listen to her about the adhd or trust myself and the doctor that undiagnosed me?

Got i haven't been that mad since middle school.

Yeah, she sounds dreadful to me. I'd go back and see if it was a one off thing, if she continues to do you no good then you must consider switching therapists, or giving it up.

I remember one week I went away completely hating my therapist, thinking she had totally been insulting and not listening, but I went back and we talked about it, and it turned out that I had been getting the wrong end of the stick completely. Not saying that's what happened with you, just that it does happen.

Anyway, good luck, I hope you find the support you need.

I notice that I keep meeting two types of "gurus" in my life. As in, therapists, or spiritual advisors, or what have you.

Type #1: Mostly a "live and let live" personality. Can make things clear for me. Provide obvious and valuable guidance. Full of light, if you will.

Type #2: Stubborn, hostile know-it-all.

I learned that both types have their place. I stick with type #1 for long periods in times of turmoil, and they help A LOT.

I go to type #2 in times of uncertainty, and they give me a proverbial punch in the face. They make me feel like s**t, and I usually never bother with them again, but their words sometimes trigger me to go outside my comfort zone and see if there was a dose of truth to them.

Usually, I don't go see type #2 out of my own free will. I hope to encounter type #1, but the Universe gives me type #2, and I take it as something that perhaps was meant to happen.

I remember talking to one of those types, 12 years ago. She laughed at and belittled everything that I told her. I felt like I was 3ft tall. She even thought that it was in my best interest, for me to blend in with my peers, who were still of the herd mentality, back than. I told the witch, that I was quite happy, living in a time warp, and that I will dress in Carnaby Street fashion all that I wanted, and that I didn't care, if that would eventually make me lonely. I told her that I don't mind being lonely. I also should have told her that my normal, NT peers were a waste of time, and they got in the way of my Mid-60s injected individuality. 12 years later, I still dress like The Kinks, and I have friends, so I'm not lonely by a long shot, like that piece of work said, that I would be..

My therapist decided to bring my family into the picture to rake in more money. I told her we couldn't afford to do it, she got the best of me and we did a couple family sessions. I put my foot down in the 2nd session after I realized she was bringing up things we were talking about in the private sessions. I asked her to step outside, I looked her straight in the eye and told her to stop what she was doing, if she had no idea what to do with me then leave my family out of it.

I would just start off a session saying, "if I am disappointed, manipulated or threatened then chances are I will not come back because so far these sessions have had less to do about my feelings and worries." After that if she feels like listening and giving you an explanation then talk to her about what is bothering you.

If you feel you don't belong with this therapist there are others who will take you, some probably never dealt with an individual like you but willing to learn how to.

Once you get to the end of the yellow brick road you will realize that you are the lion and you had courage the whole time!

Ugh, get away from that therapit. Get another one, shop around if you have to. Only go to one who seems to have a genuine liking of you and a basic understanding. I went to a great counsellor last year, I didnt get anywhere though as realised that my problems were things that couldnt be counselled away. Anyway, it feels awful and invasive to go to the wrong therapist.

Thank you everyone for such kind and insightful responses. I have had several sessions with her and each time she got worse. I do not think talking to her about it will help. i feel she will turn it around on me and say i am being paranoid or something.

The fact i have realized is that i simply cannot talk to her. she wont listen to me no matter what i say so trying to reason with her is pointless. I kinda knew this but i wanted to be sure i had it straight in my head.

I will not be seeing her again. i was only doing it for my mom. You see it was my moms therapist but my mom wanted me to see her too because i had been having bad meltdowns and she was worried.

I will have insurance by may at which point i will go back to my old therapist who was wonderful. the thing that bothers me about the mean therapist is that she works with kids. and she is not very kind. it seems like she is taking out her problems on her patients. people like that really bother me.

Er, like no-one can tell whether you have personality disorder, AS or ADHD without doing a proper assessment. My psychiatrist thought that I had obsessive-compulsive personality disorder when he first met me and was proved wrong after I was fully assessed. I think this is quite a common problem with females cus we just look too normal :colors:

I would not go back to this therapist. She will not help you. She does not have any compassion.

Second, it seems to be common for women who actually have AS to be called "borderline." I would not take this crazy therapist's word for it. Seek someone else who is, hopefully, more knowledgeable about AS and women.

I have been there, they wouldn't listen to me and thought i was making s**t up as my father seemed like an "respectable man of society", i came back to the same therapist after i tried to kill myself and blew up at her in the reception area for not doing her job and being bias in front of her other patients, again the b***h tried to say it was all in my head and i was seeking attention, i then showed my suicide note and the scars on my wrist and asked why would i lie if i was going to die. she finally realized her mistake and i demanded a refund. i suggest if possible to find another therapist, you get people who should not be working in their respective fields all the f*****g time, just keep looking for someone who knows what they are doing.

I just remembered another thing she said to me. She asked me if my weighted blanket was some kind of fetish.
WTF!! :?:

She told me she knows about aspergers and she understands it and can treat it. so why would she say something like that.

I think she was doing it to mess with me.

From how it sounds, she either is not taking her job seriously, sees it as a paycheck and is lying when she says she understands it, doesnt care or its a mixture, either way if it was me i would not want anything to do with her.

Money? Afraid to admit she doesn't know something? Embarrassment? They talked about it for 10 minutes in college, or she attended one 40-minute lecture in continuing education?

She clearly DOESN'T know about Asperger's.
