I know giving is a good strategy for depression and doing something for others makes you feel good and gives your life some meaning but...it just seems like I all my attempts end in failure.

I've tried doing volunteer work but I can't seem to do that for the same reason I can't seem to be able to paid work - what's a volunteer job where you don't need social skills?
I wish I had money to give to charity but I'm poor.
I wish I could fundraise for some charity but I've few friends or social skills.
I try to cook a nice meal for someone but I burn it, get it wrong, end up needing their help etc
When I have done something good I tend to get sensory overload afterwards which doesn't really end up being helpful.

So wondering what's something simple I can do to feel useful? something I can do in my own time, quietly, a helping hobby maybe...any ideas???

I have the same problem really, I'm not very good at giving in a way that other's find useful. I'd say don't give up trying, keep looking. Maybe think outside the box. Can you listen to people? Sometimes that's the kindest thing you can do.

If you are healthy and not a minor, you could give blood donations a try. The stick a needle into your arm, but that only stays in for about ten minutes and it's not as bad as it sounds. This way you can help others without too much of a hassle.

Thanks for the ideas - I won't give up - and I won't judge myself according to what I do or can't do for others. Just staying positive is a gift I suppose but I will keep my eyes open for things I can get involved in.

One other thing is that sometimes I think if you're feeling bad and you post here then it gives you something to kind of keep you going because you know you can check later and people will have given something to help you.
