Well things looked bright for me a couple weeks ago...I felt better because I had an interview for a bank and I was starting to go the the gym to get in shape and maybe meet new people, especially girls (cause I never had a girl that's a close friend)
I also won a little of money playing cards at a casino...not much though (like $150) but just enough to make me think things are taking a turn for the better.

So what happens in the past 2 weeks...I try and talk to a couple of girls at the gym and get completely rejected, like I'm a creep or something. I play a little cards at the casino and in 2 tournaments get eliminated the spot before the money pays by a bad beat both times (I played a combined 11 hrs. to get to those points...could have won at least 1k if I finished 1 spot better in just one of them, 2k if I made the money in both)

What happened to the job may you ask...The interview went great and I knew I was gonna get hired but there was on problem...

The one job I had prior to this where I worked for a few weeks I put down the manager as a business reference and they never could get a hold of him (I think he didn't answer on purpose and I even went in and asked him to please get in contact)

I know I would of been set because the HR lady said "We can't go forward until I talk to your reference (ex-manager)" and she called me to inform me after my interview meaning I was gonna probably be one of the few out of the 20+ candidates that were gonna be hired.

What happened today...I got a letter from the bank saying we appreciate your application and interest but no further openings are available...and take in part it was just 6 days ago when I was informed of the non-contact with my ex-manager and only 13 days from my interview...I showed them I was interested in making sure they got a hold of my manager by calling HR and going into my former employment.

I tried my hardest and I was sure I was gonna get this but once again...everything slips away from me and for some reason it has to be in a cruel way, like I'm so close and then everything gives me a big middle finger...I'm just so sick of it.

What can I really do??? I have tried to stay as positive as I could but I'm finding it harder and harder each time something knockes me down a little further into the hole...it's like I take 2 steps forward and BAM!! ! fall 5 steps back...What should I do?

Also take in part that this is just a sample and I have been going through bad luck it seems for all my life...I am happy to have what I have because I am way more forutunate as other but I think you get what I mean...

Generally women at the gym do not like to be bothered. When I used to workout I did it to get in shape. I was not at the gym to socialize in any way.

People go into casinos expecting to win but for the casinos to make money the odds always have to be in their favor. So people should actually enter casinos expecting to lose.

Sorry about the job. You should always ask someone for permission before you put them down as a reference and be sure they will actually give the reference if needed.

I think you just need to be a little more analytical in your decisions. You are not so unusual that the universe alone would tilt just to give you bad luck all the time.

Agreed, but I surely do understand your frustration and great disappointment, JP88. We spend so much time and energy carefully getting all the little ducks lined up, then one of them poops at the very moment we try to snap a nice picture.

Like Chronos has said, be sure of your reference/s next time around and give it all another "Go!"

When you play poker you have the best odds because you don't play against the house...and what are the odds of finishing the spot before 1k in both tourneys...tell me that isn't more of a long shot than making it that far

I believe that some businesses do not give a bad refrences because you can sue them for keeping you from earning a living so they just do not accept phone calls from other employers asking about a former employee. I was in the office when a phone call came in and one of the bosses told the person on the other end that if he gave them a bad refrence the person will sue them so he was just going to hang up. My boss told me that you can sue an employer for a bad refrence so he never comes out to say someone sucked as an employee. He only gives refrences for good employees who left on good terms. The person he was talking about broke two cnc lathes and was found napping in his car when they repairman was fixing them.

Yeah but the problem is that I didn't leave on bad terms...I just told him it wasn't the right job for me and I do understand the whole bad reference thing but I thought it was mandatory to at least validate the dates of my employment...that's why I'm pissed
