Rrrrnnnngh. How do you get motivated to get ready for the day? The momentum of lying in bed is almost too much. Then I seem to be able to get enough energy to move to the couch and read something, maybe even make some coffee or tea if it's a good day. From there, maybe enough to shower and dress, maybe only enough to dress and look barely presentable. I value my public image but sometimes I'm just too depressed to follow through.

Lately though there is all this frickin' construction going on at my apartment and so there are random men on ladders outside my windows and all this noise and banging and trucks and bs like that, so of course I feel completely on edge all the time and even though I sleep fine, I have trouble getting going in the morning. I feel like I can't go outside for a cigarette (cause of all the chaos and strangers) and I can't walk around freely inside my home (cause of the people on ladders outside my windows) and it's enough to make me lose all motivation to get going.

Suggestions? What do you do when you are depressed and overwhelmed in the morning and you have obligations?

I have a daily routine *I* do, and I do that routine while also doing my best to try to be "consciously oblivious" to all that other activity going on around me just as surely as those other people are quite naturally oblivious to my doings. That does not completely resolve the problem, of course, but I can at least continue practicing to consciously do what others do naturally.

Aerobic exercise. It's not a complete cure. I procrastinate and avoid exercise as long as I can, but I have to do it because if I don't, I feel terrible all day. Once I've done even as little as 10 minutes on a ski machine, I have more energy for getting through the day.

I just hate myself if i don't do it.
so the sheer self-hate motivates me i guess...which probably isn't healthy.

I start the day out with a cup of tea, followed by a good breakfast. I also find that music motivates me.

start the day, by getting up, walking out the door and yelling at the top of your lungs, " I hate you Sun"!

If you can't see the sun then it is going to be a good day.
