I really hate disagreeing with someone who doesn't research anything or base their opinion on facts. The most they'll do is search the internet for an article that supports their half-baked opinion and expect me to accept that. Then they get mad when I point out that it's a blog written by someone whose just sharing their opinion without claiming any facts to support themselves. You can't just use someone's opinion as proof that your opinion as basis. It just means there's two people who feel the same way without any factual basis for feeling that way. I hate talking to stupid people.

I should just ignore it, let them be stupid, be the better person, take the high road and all of that. Sometimes I can't help myself and I get snagged into a discussion. I don't mind people who think differently, but I want them to have their opinion because that is the conclusion they arrive at after looking at all the same facts (maybe even more) than I have and making a personal judgment. But these aren't those kinds of people. They're horrible and what's more is that no matter how nice I am, they're so disrespectful and insulting! As if I'm stupid just for not agreeing with them or basing my opinion on all these facts.

And it bothers me too much. I can't just shake it off and move on. I think about the discussion over and over after it's done. I just keep going over their stupidity and how they could possibly live their lives being that obnoxiously stupid. I'd like to believe that NT people, when faced with someone who drives them crazy with stupidity, would be able to move on within a reasonable time frame. I'm still thinking of crap from 1989.

Why are they stupid?

There is comfort in the familiar. These people are concerned with being right, or more specifically, gaining people's approval. Having a discussion doesn't get people's approval, the way to do it is to get someone to agree with you (read: acknowledge that you are the king) and then everyone knows your dick is bigger than everyone elses. After a while, if you live in your own BS for long enough, you start to believe it.

If I might ask, what were you two disagreeing about?

I usually pick the opposing stance on an issue just so I have something to debate with someone, even if it's not supported by facts. Usually I don't even believe it myself. I wonder how many people think I'm stupid for doing so...

It's not just one isolated incident. It's been a culmination of experiences. Like I said, I can heat back up over something that happened 22 years ago. I just hate the ignorance and aggression. It really gets under my skin.

I have a friend who does this and he drives me crazy but I know what he's doing. He also doesn't insult or patronize me throughout the disagreement. He's just playing devil's advocate. If anything, it makes sure I do know what I'm talking about.

Yeah the world is full of idiots but guess what, people hate arrogant, pedantic people more. Just because someone hasn't formulated some internet arguement to your standards doesn't make them stupid.

If your friends do this, stop being their friend and be a sad lonely, super intelligent an logical hermit.

See how insults are used to cover up a completely baseless useless point? Exactly like that. Thanks for providing the example.

It isn't "to [my] standards" as much as it's basing it on facts instead of a gut feeling, emotive rhetoric or "life experience" (which turns out to be nothing more than emotive rhetoric and a pile of isms). That makes them stupid, not because they don't know but because they refuse to learn. You want to call me arrogant and pedantic for that? That's your choice. I know I'm civil and have good manners in such discussions. I save my frustration for places meant for such things... wherein I can be insulted by a complete stranger for no f*****g reason at all.
