Now I really don't have a choice, do I? (Apartment Life)
She shouldn't have twitted me about me getting evicted for lack of cleanliness...she really shouldn't have.
You see, both of my parents decided to come over to help me clean my apartment, because Mom had the time to, but on rather short notice.
It didn't help that the first thing she said out loud when she stepped into my apartment was "Smells like trash from the outside hallway." Like, WTF?!
That REALLY helps my confidence....NOT.
Then, after an incident where my useless as f**k father tried to fix my kitchen lightbulbs, but didn't secure the glass fixture over it good enough, resulting in it smashing into a thousand pieces on the floor....
After that, when tending to my counter tops and my kitchen floor, which I WILL admit weren't very clean, she had the naked chutzpah to say to my face "This alone would probably get you kicked out."
Doesn't she realize by now, that my mind plays out EVERY SINGLE POSSIBLE SCENARIO in the WORST POSSIBLE WAY!? For the rest of their stay....hell, even still NOW...my mind has been filled with thoughts of men showing up with eviction papers, telling me I had two weeks to leave, or they'd see me in court!
My mind is a blur...half of me wants to call Mr. Green and say I want out RIGHT NOW...
And the other half of me wants to engage in some good old fashioned mind-f**k games with my mother. If she wants to compare my apartment to a sty, then a sty she's going to get! Even though my apartment is freshly cleaned now, I'm not going to make ANY attempts at all to do any more cleaning, ever again (except for laundry of course).
When the apartment men come to change my window screens, they're gonna find quite the shambles. And if THEY tell me that my apartment is filthy, and I need to shape up or ship out, THEN I'll choose to stay permanently and fly right. But it NONE OF MY MOTHER'S GODDAMN BUSINESS!!
A man's apartment should be his sanctuary...if someone comes in and threatens you with possible eviction scenarios, then it's not a sanctuary anymore...not to me it isn't. I've f**king had it.

If you ruin your own chances to live independently in order to "get back at" your mother, it won't hurt anyone but you. I understand you are angry that she invaded your space and tried to scare you like that. She was probably exaggerating how bad the mess was in order to scare you into taking better care of yourself. It isn't logical to let yourself lose your apartment because your mother criticized you. That would still be letting her control you.
yes, but you have to understand something yourself; the tactic of scaring someone into taking better care of oneself is better used for someone between the ages of 10 and 20, not someone who's only one year away from FORTY!
Besides, now that both my youngest brother has moved out and our oldest cat had died, it won't be as rough for me if I do move back home. I don't care if it hurts me like you claim. It's all about simply proving that I can f**k with my parents' anytime I want! As long as they're willing to put up with it, which means any time I want.
Well, I have calmed since yesterday morning. I still feel a little surreal, like this isn't quite happening.
You do make an excellent point, Zen, but you have to see things from my point of view. Do you know what torture it is to be *thinking*, all the time? My guess is that you don't, because you probably have the capacity to let the bad moments in your life go; 'out of sight, out of mind', 'what's done is done', and all that bullcrap. Myself, I don't have that capacity; my mind remembers EVERY little bad discrepancy my parents put me through...and that why I do little 'revenge' things towards them, even though I know it's childish and immature.
Maybe I will go light on the making messes part of my revenge...because what would really get Mom where it hurts, is NOT letting her know when the men come to change the window screens in my apartment. That would really make her flip out, knowing that my apartment wasn't up to her impossible to live up to standards when the maintenance men come around. Then and ONLY then, I'll be content in my revenge enough to stay in this apartment.
And that's the way it is. I'll keep you all updated.

Well, this is it. Less then 12 hours to go before the men come around...
Remember how I said in the previous post that every six months the maintenance men come around and change the screens on my windows? Well, that day is TOMORROW. I got that notice last Thursday...and it couldn't have come a moment sooner,
As promised, I didn't tell Mom about it, because that would ruin my chance to get glorious payback on her. The first few days of waiting I went light...only making messes by accident, but still not tending to them. But this afternoon and tonight, I've set my plan into motion;
Bathroom - I've only flushed my toilet 3 times since last Monday, and the sink is mildly cluttered. (don't worry, I WILL make sure I flush it before they come)
Bedroom - empty soda cans and food wrappers in strategic locations, where the men are sure to find them, as well as an empty open pizza box with a few crusts still out.
Kitchen - Sink full of more empty soda cans. Kitchen floor, barbeque sauce dripped on, half a handful of chicken patty crumb coating tossed about, and for good measure, I put on my shoes and tracked the mess all around the floor. Counter-top, same story, minus the shoes and plus some empty bread wrappers.
Living room - another open empty pizza box with some crusts left (on the couch), loose change scattered, empty cans yet again strewn across my general seating area, and half-empty to empty Chinese takeout containers on the television set. (as well as some spilled containers of duck sauce)
There...I think that should be enough to get a warning from Mr. Green. And like I said, if and when that happens, THEN I'll clean up my act and tidy up on a regular basis.
*chuckles* Mom is gonna be sooooo pissed when she finds out the men already came, let alone into an absolute pig sty! Well, in HER eyes; in my eyes, it's mildly dirty, but still bearable.
Well, I'm going to turn in early. Got to get up before 8am, and spend an hour or so at Aroma Joe's cafe across the street. Wish me luck!

Put on a clean shirt if you can find one...
Put on a clean shirt if you can find one...
I'm going to assume that what you said was constructive criticism, and not a dig on my personal hygiene.
I meant when your parents come by!
Alright I got it. I apologize for being defensive and paranoid, Shrox.
Well, this is kinda awkward...
I did indeed go through with the messy apartment revenge plan...
The men had come and changed my windows as scheduled Monday morning...
But the whole concept of 'revenge' is kinda lost, if you keep it a secret, you know what I mean?
Ten days after the men came, my mom came to pick me up to come to the old homestead because I had a doctor's physical the following morning, and we decided to stop for lunch at a Dunkin' Donuts on the way. Well, as we ate, I started to do what I'd planned...to string her along with lies, then spring it on her that the men already came, and they got an eyeful of my sloppy apartment. But when I told her that the men already came...I felt SO uneasy doing so! I guess it was because mom was so happy at the thought that I was making the effort to keep my place clean and to her standards, I couldn't follow-up with the springing of the deception. You see, for the last three weeks, she'd been in a deep blue funk because her doctor had officially labeled her as 'obese', and felt as though she had to permanently give up her favorite hobby of baking. So when I saw her smile and say "Great!", I just couldn't bring myself to make her upset all over again. So I lied and said that the men saw nothing to complain about.
This pretty much all became a lose-lose situation for me: If I did tell her the truth, she have gotten angry and I couldn't have lived with it; if I lied, I'd feel guilty and couldn't live with myself.
So therefore, I'm going to call Mr. Green tomorrow - as well as make my parents aware of course, because they'll figure it out sooner or later - and arrange to pay him next month's rent in advance, so that I may take the time to pack up my things and move back into my old home. But not permanently; I'll still search for another apartment complex to live in...just not Kingsley anymore. (I'm a man of my word, FireMinstrel.)
I hereby consider this personal drama in my life closed. It's time to soldier on.

Evicted for lack of cleanliness? I don't think it's a landlord's business how "clean" a tenant's apartment is except in the most extreme of cases, like when you see really bad hoarders on tv with trash bags piled waist high or animal hoarders with a solid foot of feces covering all the floors.
My apartment isn't very clean either. I want to try to do more cleaning when I move but I don't even feel like it's worth bothering cleaning this 30 year old dump. Also cleaning is hard for me as it takes me a long time if I want to really do a good job at it. My mother almost never cleans either which is ironic since she works as a cleaner.
