My boyfriend who was living with us joined the army. He left for Basic last Tuesday. I'm having a rough time with him leaving especially since he isnt able to contact me like he usually does when he goes to his moms for a few days. I can deal with commnicating by mail but im anxious because I don't know when I will recieve the first letter or even how frequent the letters will be. I also have issues with just the fact that hes not here...it just doesnt seem right to me... I have a hard time sleeping at night because hes not there. My mom ordered me a weighted blanket to see if that will help me (if it feels like theres somebody there with me at night it will ease my anxieties)

Any advise?

No advice, just a hug. *Awkward aspie hug*

Don't they have army/military support groups for significant others? They would know the best I would think, no?

I have no idea how long it is before they can contact you. My neice is married to a guy in the Army, and I could send her an email and ask if you want, but I don't think they can send anything out during basic training, except near the end to invite family to graduation. I could be wrong.

Wrackspurt, I don't know if I would be considered a significant other since were just dating.
OliveoilMom, I have a friend who is in the reserves and he said that it could be up to 2 weeks before I get a letter. My issue is the waiting. It would be great if I knew the exact day I was going to receive it so that I don't have to get my hopes up everyday I go to the mailbox. After I posted this my neighbor told me that it takes 5 days to get mail from Kansas (where she has family) so it would probably be the same amount of days to hear from him since hes in Missouri. He also gets to come home for Christmas.

As a guy that is in the Air Force here is my two cents :
Basic is a stressful time. He is gunna be busy! Don't expect to get a letter for atleast 2 weeks.. and the frequency all depends on his drill Sergent. When I was in, they gave us no time for letters, but me and a couple guys got our flashlights out at midnight and wrote a few..
