do you hear things?

not voices, but weird sounds, like the hum of the lights.. for example i tell my wife i can hear the christmas lights hum, this really soft hum, but its only when they blink on, and the stove, we have a gas stove, i can hear the gas hiss.. stuff like that.. i can hear the tv hum when its on, not the volume of the channel, even when i turn the volume down i can hear that hum.. anyone else hear those things?

My daughter says the same thing all the time. Sometimes we tease that she could hear one of those silent dog whistles. She wears earphones with a mp3 a lot to keep from noticing all the little sounds.

omg the earphones on the ipod are the WORST, i can hear every imperfection trust me they are there little clicks, almost like on the lp's , when you could hear the grooves, i can hear something in the ipod moving

When you hear some noises, are they louder than they should be?

If so, you have "Hearing Loudness Discomfort" like me and you can hear (like me) sensitive higher frequency noises like when a TV's on you can hear the high pitched hum.

I hear all those things, the telly with that high pitched sound, that you can hear from other rooms and the lights (fluorescent) that hum. I find iPod earphones, also have the horrible crackling sound. At present there is a door at work that squeaks when opened, nobody else can here it even when up close, I could be down the end of the hall and still hear it.

Sometimes I find it too much and I have to get some quiet time. What a joke quiet time is, I can still hear all those little noises, fans, the humming of lights etc etc.... It is quite funny though, as I never really thought about it too much about it until you brought it up, but it has been bothering me.

Are you joking about the dog whistle? I can hear those things, they make a horrible sound.

What do you mean Alternative? how can you tell if something is louder than it should be. Could you please give an example.

what i hear on the ipod is a slight "click" the most similar sound, if you ever heard the needle move on the LP's, not a scratch, but the needle in the groove, thats the best way i can describe it.. it drives me crazy because you think MP3 its gonna be perfect but theres that little sound that i know is not part of the music..
i cant really say if things sound louder than they should be, if they were (or werent) how would i know, but its not a "loud" discomfort, its just the insesent sounds that drives me nuts..
the "quiet time" is when i hear everything.. i get up in the middle of the night to find the source of many noises, and my wife is none to pleased about that, its part of why she made me sign on here.. i once bought those earphones that people use at the shooting range, or the people who work at the airport on the runway, and i could still "hear" the silence..

Yes, I was joking about the dog whistle because I'd be afraid to use one as she can probably hear it also. She was being tested the other day at a clinic and she mentioned that she could hear me talking out in the waiting area. The Dr. was shocked and asked if she was sure she could hear me, because that was sound proof room. She also hates taking tests like the ACT or SAT because she hears others pencils writing on the paper.

She will often come into my room and wake me up asking can't I hear some noise and wanting to know what it is. The other night I had to go outside to hear the noise she heard that was motor on oil well about 2 miles away. Outside I could hear a faint motor sound but she heard it in the house clear as a bell.

I'm up many a time during the night, stopping the tap dripping downstairs (I'm in the attic conversion) that does not seem to bother anyone else sleeping on the same level. Yes, I hear that slight 'click' on the iPod also, like the quality is just not 100%:cry: . I tried those noise cancelling products before, but I notice the noise that my mouth makes .
I also hear conversations that I shouldn't .

You really cant win, at the end of the day (saying) you just have to learn to deal with things, I have always been told that. But the question is, how do you learn to deal with it? We need to learn some sort of coping skills, were do I/we find the help and support? I don't know of anywhere in Ireland. Would I need to see my doctor, to get a referral to see someone? or is that a bad idea? you really can't win.

Sorry for ranting on a bit, but this subject has been annoying me for quite some time.

When someone watches the TV, it's on moderate volume, but to their hearing it sounds like the TV is louder.

I've had musical hallucinations before: you know, where it sounded like there was music playing in the distance even though there wasn't.

Not sure if that happens to anyone else.

Yes, I no what you mean Alternative. Currently I am two rooms away from the telly and can still hear it, as though it was in the room with me. Do my family just have it up very loud? or is it me

Whats determined as 'moderate volume' on a TV? 1/4 the way or 1/2.

I hear most of those things too.

Background noises are annoying.

People keep accusing me of being deaf as i keep asking people to speak up, yet i do regular hearing tests and my ears are fine!!

Voices seem very qiuet in comparison to backgroud noise.

Yes, that's happened to me too.

Also when my husband stops playing the guitar (he is learning at the moment and plays the same piece of music over and over) I carry on hearing the music playing for about an hour afterwards.
