Blimey. Is there anything in your waking life that's causing you stress problems?

I copped this from a webpage, I think it might be a good idea, writing down dreams. It's something I do. Then when you go to bed, reread, it might help.

Quote:
There are some techniques you can use to ease frequent nightmares. You must try this every night until the problem is resolved.

- Write down your nightmare in as much detail as you can remember. Tell the whole story even if it is extremely scary.

- Try to end the story of your nightmare with a happy ending. Do not include violence of any sort when writing the story. Keep it as peaceful and compassionate as you can. Don't forget that you are working with raw emotions and trying to turn them into more refined emotions.

- After you finish writing the new story, go through it in your head over and over again. You must do this every night straight after you go to bed. Don't do anything in between as it will weaken this powerful technique. Do it when you go to bed so you are not tempted to do things in between.

- Then do some relaxation exercises. You can choose anyone that you are comfortable with such a yoga, meditation, or breathing exercises.

Lucid dreaming techniques might help, but they take a while to learn and train. Basically you can control your dreams, and magic zombies and threatening things away. But it would probably be better to get to the underlying issues for your dreams anyway.

I hope you feel more comfortable soon. I'll try and think of other ways to help you.

at a very early age (4-5) I was exposed to horror films and I was recently watching the Walking Dead and the end absolutely horrified me and I've been having nightmares since. It's pretty much taken over my mind and I'm living day to day in fear.

I should stop exposing yourself to such material. Watch some disney cartoons or something, The Happy Mermaid and that. Or listen to some nice soothing music.

When I saw "Signs" it freaked me out so bad that I had nightmares. Also a scene in Scary Movie just frigtened me. The film was comedy but that one scene just scared me so much. Even some disney cartoons scared me. A scene in Bambi 2 scared me in some way. I know how can a cartoon made for children scare me, an adult. My most common nightmares though are of me laying in a casket. I don't know why. I don't know if it's a nightmare, but I have had dreams of meeting my grandfather and hugging him. He passed away several years ago.

Aw - I could have written the exact same thing when I was 16 and saw a zombie move that kinda broke me. *shudder*

Moog's right, you need to stop exposing yourself to that kind of stuff. That's what I have to do.

Maybe it'll help you to understand the historical significance of zombies. Taken from an academic stand point they lose some of their power to frighten. There's the ancient fear of death and all the associations with it, the supernatural and the unexplained but then more recently, there is the fear of communism. Zombie movies especially (like alien invasion movies) started as a reaction during the cold war. That's why they eat brains and not livers or something like that. They are symbolically destroying a person's individuality and turning him into one of them.

Hope you feel better about it soon.

I'm starting to come out the other side of this. @Moog I ended up drowning out the zombies with the many many podcasts I listen to. @happymusic that really does help and now that I think about it that makes total sense.

All my bad dreams are about being lost.

I parked my car in a strange city and now I am lost wandering around the streets looking for it.

I am for some reason back in High School and wandering the corridors looking for the class I should be in.

I am stuck in a city and need to go home except I have no money and can't remember where I live.

Do you think that you have ptsd from your childhood experience of the horror movie and seeing the recent zombie movie caused a sort of flash back?
What you are describing sounds like ptsd. The best thing to do for that is to hyperfocus on what is going on at the curent moment, called mindfullness which is a zen buddhist mental extersize...it has proven effective for war veterans.

You need to understand the dreams are just dreams, they can't affect you unless they allow them to and they tend to be based on random collective images that aren't based on reality. If you can't define the difference between entertainment and reality, I'd insist that you stay away from movies that will lead to these types of dreams.
