Yesterday my brother Kevin got married, i was the best man. i was also the legal witness to the paperwork. However, during the Reception my mom gets a call from my cousin Brandon that my Uncle Robert is heading to the Emergency Room after a seizure and that he wasn't breathing but they had him on a machine. i tried my best to comfort my mom and grandma saying he is too stubborn to die. barely 20 minutes later, my Aunt Lyn calls my mom to tell us Uncle Robert The Great(he schooled us in that name since we were babies) was dead. Uncle Robert was a great man perhaps one of the greatest men i ever knew, he was a loving family man who protected his kith and kin fiercely. He was a True Texan through and through, even when he lived in California before he actually moved to Texas. In the eyes of me and my kin, Uncle Robert was always invincible, always so strong, and confident in everything he did. The world will definitely be a different place with him gone, i mean even in Texas he was always there for us and would drive out here to California in his big Ford-250 with the long horn horns attached to the roof of his truck in an instant if we needed him. He came to visit several times a year. He will be greatly missed and was well loved by everyone who knew him, he was a man more than worthy of the respect and admiration he received. he was a fair businessman and a hard worker, too hard of a worker if you ask my grandma, she reckons he worked himself to death in the end.
i had to suck it up last night so i, as best man, could give my brother the toast he deserves and i think i did pretty well given the circumstances.
my brothers new wife Jennifer led a prayer for Uncle Robert when he was in the ambulance, Uncle Robert was one of the biggest atheists i know he would have hated to be prayed to
