I dropped out of college today, wasn't going to class. I was just in a 6 or 7 hour car ride to live with my grandparents for an undetermined amount of time. I am going to end up trying to get a job soon. I don't know anyone in this town besides my grandparents.

I just feel really alone now.

My mom sounded pretty upset (With herself I think) that I hadn't called her and told her that I was doing bad at school/ask for help because I didn't want her to be angry at me for not going to class.

I just don't know what to do.

I stopped going to class in college also and was... uh... suspended for nonexistent academic performance. I read that it is a very common problem for Aspies.

I think it's good you know you have Asperger's/autism (I assume); I didn't know til 5 years later and those were kind of lost years. Is there a way for you to see a mental health counselor who can help you figure out what to do next if you're not sure, taking into account differences in the way you think and do things?

My grandparents said they were going to take me to some support group. I actually figured out that I might have aspergers a year ago and didn't tell my mom.

A month ago my psych and mom thought I should probably get tested. I haven't yet but I think she is looking into it, but is 100% sure that I have aspergers. She has a degree in early childhood education hood education and has helped a few kids get diagnosed with add and autism

I hope you did or will "officially" withdraw from classes. I did not, and they marked me as having failed everything, just as if I had stayed and failed. It was a set-back that I didn't need.

I'm sorry to hear you're lonely. It's a new situation that I hope will improve. Being out of school is so much better. I never approved of school fwiw.

Can you get a dog? A nice one from the SPCA, maybe? That will involve walking the dog, and dogs stop to talk to each other, and you'll have a small chat with the other owners. There's no problem with what to say, it's always about the dogs. I have allergies, but I got a mini poodle from the SPCA.

I hope you don't worry too much. It sounds like you've got good and sensible people looking after you. It's normal to feel unsettled when everything is different.

Claradoon has good advice about offically withdrawing from the classes. You will have less problems later with your academic records if you do that.

I also dropped in and out of college between ages 17 - 33 when I finally got my BA. I didn't know about being AS until two years ago - age 52. It would have helped me back then, but it was not "discovered" yet. Oh well, water under the bridge.

I would suggest looking for a good educational guidance counciler (usualy available at colleges for free) to help you sort things out.

Great! That's one end tied off so it won't come back to bite you.
Do you feel more comfortable today?

The one time I tried to go to college I just stopped going not long into my first semester. It never even occurred to me to officially withdraw from classes.

It wouldn't have worked out anyways. I was taking math and science (they didn't have a science only degree in the community college I went to at the time) but I was in remedial math and chemistry lab scared me. I also have a hard time writing papers.

I dropped out of college in the middle of my third semester. It was not a sudden decision, I had been struggling with it since before I started college, but it still put me in a state of shock that I had actually dropped out. I became extremely discouraged and spent a few months basically just lying on the couch feeling horrible, until I found a job.

You may need to just take some time out to recover and process what happened. Be gentle with yourself. You don't have to figure everything out right now.
