FML!.........I hate PTSD, to think I would have still had my enjoyment of reading and awesome ability to to focus on reading and be able to get through half that college homework I would have if i was still going this semester done within a couple hours rather then a period of days. But no why the hell should I be able to do that......it's better when I get no enjoyment from reading and cannot even focus on it well enough for what needs to be done.
and people wanna talk to me about not trying hard enough? well you try and succeed at college which involves lots of reading you cannot do effectively all because some a**hole with a gun came in my school shot someone and screwed up my mind more than it already was. All I wanted to do was deny it........so yeah I went to college, I didn't tell anyone I hated reading and could hardly focus on it since that happened I just thought I could push myself through it and get that back but all I did was make it worse by trying so damn hard not to dissappoint people.
sorry for the long rant but this is what's been on my mind yesterday and today and playing a huge role on my mood.

Vigorous exercise helps with PTSD.
Ride a bike HARD until you feel like you got no more strength left. Then turn around and ride back home.
Or swim laps. Learn to swim if you can't already.
Those are proven solutions, along with a healthy diet. No fats or sugars! Especially sugar.
You need to stick with this and make yourself do it for a few weeks... and then you'll never want to stop.
Don't let anyone give you drugs. There are no drugs that help PTSD, despite what so called experts tell you.

I probably have PTSD too and have recently seen a psychiatrist for help.
I now have to go the anger and anxiety management for it.
I was beaten up every day by a football player and my teachers did nothing about it.
My passion was art and people thought that I was pretty talented. That's now gone.
I can't draw or paint without feeling depressed, angry and worthless.
I probably would have went to a good art school if this athlete wouldn't have beaten me everyday in high school.
I imagine that your PTSD is much worse than mine.
The flashbacks could make anyone go mad.
The worse thing anyone could ever do to another person is to destroy their passions.
That appears to have happened to both of us. Hopefully one day you will enjoy reading and I will enjoy drawing again.
I know that a good, long rant can make things feel better for just a moment.
Dilbert, you are right about the exercise but sometimes a mild medication like Prozac can help with the emotions.

Meh, for me seems like a terrible idea.......I'm already underweight as it is, I don't want my body to start eating my muscle tissue for energy just to make it back home from a bike ride. I do get a lot of walking in though sometimes not so much by choice but still and I like riding bikes sometimes but not to the point of too much exhaustion.
Also I can swim, but not correctly.......I've already tried learning and for whatever reason I don't seem to have the coordination, not to mention the chlorine in the water irritates the hell out of me so I kinda avoid swimming unless it's at a hot-springs pool with more natural things then nasty chemicals in the water.
I guess I just don't see physically exhausting myself on top of mental exhaustion and the lack of energy I already have from a combination of depression, being underweight and tension caused by anxiety and PTSD on a regular basis would help me feel any better. Also I don't think I can afford a fat & sugar free diet even if I wanted one. As for drugs usually it's not others giving me the drugs......usually I take them by choice.........not into SSRIs though but I would not mind some Xanax or something for those times when I could really use some instant calm 'right now!' because I'm about ready to freak out and am in public...or if cannabis was legal I'd just take a hit but it's not...
Thanks for trying to help though...just not sure that is the best way for me at this point.

Well I don't know that mine is worse, as it was only one day and though I knew the student who got killed we had not really talked much at all since middle school....but yeah that's how I was with reading & writing in fact it was even something I could focus on to keep from feeling too depressed or anxious...you know a productive thing I could do rather then wallow in the depression and anxiety and stress of parents fighting and getting picked on all the time. So yeah to have that just taken was pretty hard for me.....but I've hardly admitted it to anyone IRL because I I just feel like they would not understand.
also exercise is healthy and good, but I just don't see it solving my problems.......i mean when I was younger I used to ride my bike and go on long walks all the time and it did not really seem to do much other then provide some temporary relief and a reason to get away from people if they were bothering me.

You could try GABA supplements... gamma-aminobutyric acid, a non-essential amino acid, it's the brain's natural calming agent. Basically it works by inhibiting the number of neurons that are active at any given time (you can still function normally, but everything is much less overwhelming). I have chronic anxiety and my therapist says I have symptoms of PTSD, although I can't think of anything specific, probably just from trying to figure my way around the world and feeling constantly overwhelmed/inadequate. Anyway, it really helps me, and they are what I'd consider affordable (I just bought 200 capsules on Amazon for $15). Don't get any that contain L-Tyrosine as well, while I guess this works on anxiety for some people, it breaks down into a chemical that causes migraines and it definitely did that to me.

ptsd? post traumatic stress disorder... *shruggs*
whatever it is sounds bad, sounds like the same feeling i get when i see mmo mentioned at all. i go berserk at any mention of those. but the way i see anything is i don't force myself to do anything.
which is probably why i don't do much.
was it the gunshot that triggered this? because my dad shot his guns around me in the freaking mountains. but after that i now am obsessed with guns and weapons.
if that's that thing soldiers get during war times, damn i wish you luck.
oh i think i have something like that, only mine is balloons. some point when i was young i don't remember, a balloon popped right next to my ear. i think i was 4 or something, i don't actually remember the event that triggered it which is probably why i can't get past it. but i'm scared to death of balloons now. i see one and i turn crazy, i'm always afraid they will pop at any time. i'm not kidding either. it's a stupid fear but i can't get past it.
all my birthdays have had no balloons since then, and if i went someones house with balloons i was petrified the whole time with my ears plugged, praying for the time to pass faster. and it's odd i can remember other stuff i did when i was young but that whole event is just gone. i wager it was to trammatic for me at that time and i got memory loss to help my mind deal with it.
but it left me with a fear that never ends and forgot what triggered it so i can't get past it. my mom told me what happened but i don't recall the event at all. i take her word for it because obviously she remembers.
at least you know the event that triggered yours i don't and the chances of getting past it are very slim.

Yes it's post tramatic stress disorder........and I did not really see anything, though apparently everyone but me heard a gun-shot come from another classroom but that was just some sort of warning shot. No one was killed until we all got evacuated to the other school building and the cops went in to try and get the students in the classroom with the guy with the gun out and one of them ended up getting shot. So yeah most of what i experianced was just the lockdown, seeing a bunch of cops with rather heavy duty weapons and such......and then of course what ended up on the news as that was on at my house.
What you have sounds more like a phobia, or kind of like something that happened to me when I was really young and my mom was vacuming, I turned up the T.V then she yelled at me and it freaked me out and I've hated vacuming ever since. but yeah the PTSD would be kinda simular but on a larger more severe scale.

well i do know something similar i can understand a bit, my other fear is of vents. i guess the only thing i can do is wish you the best of luck. i hope things will better for you, even if it's not by much.
right now i've had chronic stomach pain for about a year and i would give anything for an ounce of relief. so best of luck in the future.

Moreso than even the Asperger's I feel like it is my Sisyphus rock.
Well that's for sure......last I checked Aspergers does not case me to get mentally trapped in memories I would prefer not to think about or make me feel like everything is so horribly pointless there is not much point in doing anything.
