OK first off I found out my youngest son is straight. Then my FB screwed up on me and half the people I had on there are gone, right in the middle of an argument I was having and now my mother is sick. She's 80. This means I have to go to church tomorrow. Also, preachers will come over to her house to pray at her after. But I can't just go to any church and get it over with in an hour. Oh noooooo....... She wants me to go to Mr Sammy's church.

It's a black church.

That means I will be there for like four freaking hours shouting hallelujah to a God I don't even believe in. And then he will come to her house. There is no getting rid of him either. He's like this big football player guy but he's in a wheelchair. He does have a voice now, I'll tell you that. He's loud and he's the security guard at the grocery store. Cause if he yells at you, you WILL stop.

I have to put the ham on in 30 minutes, cause I will have to feed everybody at her house tomorrow.

I can do this though. I have a hat and I will put it on in the morning with my black dress with the leopard trim and my good shoes and I will get through that black church service just as well as any of the black girls there. I can do this. I might even pretend to get me some holy ghost.

OliveOilMom you strike me as a pretty amazing person. I have complete confidence you can pull it all off and still have time at the end of the day to kick back with a nice refreshing beverage. I do hope you all the best in your endeavors thought.

I realize that you are joking, but it seems like it is really not OK to be white and straight anymore. I think the media is driving most of that and we unconsciously think it's funny to denigrate whites/straights. Just my two cents : -)

The church was great! I really liked how he preached to everybody and not just those who shared his religion. He was very ecumenical. Of course he preached the Gospel, but he did it in a way that can apply to everybody. Be good to others more than be this religion. I thoroughly enjoyed it, even if it was a long time. I honestly want to go back and hear him talk some more, and that's saying a lot from me. I don't dislike Christianity at all, in fact I love a good Catholic Mass but usually the Protestant ministers down here tend to be a little overbearing. By down here, I mean in this town, I've heard some wonderful sermons in Birmingham churches. There are so many legalistic people here that it tends to overshadow everything.

I'm not changing religious beliefs, but I am so going back to it because it was such a very motivational and uplifting talk! He was almost like a combination of motivational speaker, therapist, and cheerleader all at once. He made you want to do nice things for people and treat them nice. And the shouting was very much of a pep rally type thing, where (it seemed to me) that the more people hollered it, the more electric and excited the crowd grew and I even did it a few times. The lady sitting be side me that I barely know even patted me on the back when I did. She wasn't offended. (It's a small town, everybody knows my beliefs).

I knew him as the security guard and the cashier at the store. Now I see him in a whole new light.

I am "straight" also. Does this mean that you hate me? I am glad you had a great time at the church. I still believe in God but have been estranged from churches for a long time due to my abhorrence of religion. They made too many false claims and threats for me.

I hate motivational speaking because in the end it just riles you up and you go back to your bad life you have very little control over the circumstances of. Would rather people just be realistic than give me false hope and motivation, especially motivation that minimizes the amount of sheer work and good decisions you must make to reach your goals.

But hey, maybe I'll be having a hot Vietnamese girlfriend, snatching 400lbs, doing triple axels, making 500K a year, living in a mansion and driving a Nissan GTR tomorrow playing this out of it:
