Parents of the world: Please, go tell your children that you love them. Wrap them in the largest hug that you can muster, squeeze them as tightly as they are comfortable with, and tell them, sincerely and passionately, that they are loved, that they are wonderful, that they are acceptable in your eyes, despite of all of their flaws, despite the fact that they "only" scored X on the ACT or the SAT or whatever tests they face, and despite the fact that they do irritate you at times and that they do falter from the "straight and narrow path." I feel that not enough children of my generation hear this as much or as deeply as they should from parents on any spectrum. I could tell them that they are loved all day long, and, figuratively speaking, I will, for it is my policy to love as much as possible, but they also need to hear this from you, the parents, the ones they hold most dear, the ones that they, consciously or subconsciously, feel that they owe the most to-- the ones that matter more than anyone at this age.
Please, parents, remind your children of how deeply and truly loved they are. ♥
