And I am dreading it. I would hate to live on my own, but when we have these occasional ''hectic days'', I come to dread it. Tomorrow we've got a hairdresser coming to the house to cut everyone's hair (except mine) and she is someone who does not stop talking, and just goes on about herself, so I find her a bit overwhelming to be around, which is why I don't like to sit in the room. But because my bedroom is downstairs, I feel I can't relax in there either because there's going to be so many people in and out (the hairdresser is coming at midday, just when my mum's sisters come round with their kids, they are adults but one acts like a 5-year-old), leaving doors wide open, TV roaring out, the cat miawing, the kettle roaring, people chattering.....it all drives me mad, and I don't want to sit with earplugs in because I have an ear infection, and I can't block it all out with music because, well, I might not feel like listening to music for the whole duration. I have asked my friends what they are doing but they're usually busy on Saturdays, and I haven't really got anywhere else to go, unless I wander around on my own, which I don't want to do either. I would sit outside in my garden, but it's going to rain, as usual (we don't get normal summers in the UK any more, thanks to stupid arctic winds).

What would you do in this situation?

(Without giving me the ''move out'' option. I love living with people, but week-ends can be a nightmare for me - especially when the hairdresser comes).

I would fake a bad headache. That would give me an excuse to stay in my room the whole day and also for my Mom to tell people "Hold it down, my daughter has a bad headache". It also makes it much easier for you to go out there (or text) and ask your Mom to please keep the noise down some, as it's making your headache worse.

Headaches are easy to fake. All you have to do is just frown a little frown when you are around people, occasionally rub your temples, and be seen taking Tylenol (or pretending to take Tylenol). People seem to understand that they need to be quiet when someone has a headache too, especially if you say something like "I'm so sorry, I'd love to sit out here and visit with you but my head is killing me. Noise especially, I think it's a migrane. I just took some Tylenol/Advil/Aleve/whatever you have, and I hope it's better soon so I can see you before you leave".

When you have to come out to ask them to be quieter, just smile in a friendly yet in pain kind of way and say "I hate to ask, but can you hold it down a bit please? Any kind of noise just feels like an axe murderer with bad aim is trying to kill me".

Also, if you can text your mom instead of coming out of the room, alls the better!

ETA; Mention the headache early in the morning, shortly after you get up. That way it won't seem obvious. Also, do not complain about the people coming over to your family or anyone who will repeat it to them. That way it won't seem obvious either. Do not overplay the pain though or your mom will end up making you go to the emergency room to get a Demerol shot. That will knock you out for the rest of the day.

Faking a headache is a good idea. Well, knowing me, I'd probably have a real headache anyway - I'm due to come on next week, and my mum knows that. :)
I don't like to expect everyone to be quiet but it would help if they kept the living-room door closed, that way the noise can keep out a bit, and because I'm quite deaf, the noise doesn't sound so distracting when the doors are kept shut. Noise is actually more distracting when you don't hear that well, because I tend to listen out more and noise outside my room sounds more muffled or murmuring, which makes me more angry than actually being in the noise, if that makes sense.

I have told my mum several times if people can keep the living-room door closed tomorrow, but her sisters come round and you can't tell them to shut the door, especially the disorganised one. They both smoke and so are in and out, and one is always needing a pee so is always going to the toilet, and they always forget to shut doors behind them. It's annoying though, because when I'm at somebody else's house and I go into or out of a room where the door is already closed, I would automatically close it immediately after coming through, as though it's a natural instinct to close a door that was already closed before I opened it.

But I suppose NTs get themselves so swallowed up in social situations that they probably don't think of whether a door is closed or not. I can kind of imagine how that is, but even so, it would be polite to keep the door closed, also to keep out the draft (don't know how to spell the real spelling, whether it's ''drought'' or ''draught'').
