Tonight I had a fight with my mom about my orientation. She overheard me on the phone talking to my best friend about my new love interest(who,OF COURSE,is a girl).

She said,"I just DON'T understand how someone can love a member of their own sex!"

I said,"Why don't you stop b!tching about it and go find out?"

She started screaming at me and sh!t.The last thing she said was,"Why would ANYONE want to be gay?"

God,I swear I hate that woman with a passion.I,for one thing, didn't choose to be gay and nor do I WANT to be gay.I just want to be with the one I love.

Good for you. Your sexual orientation is nobody's business but your own.

As I say, you and I will find the right person eventually. Keep on trying. If this works out: excellent! If not, give it more time. Take your time and think about things first, OK? :)

Sounds like she already knows the answers but just can't face up to them. Sucks... sorry.

These people tend to get more and more convinced about what they think when you argue with them, so it's really no good.

I'm asexual but i have no problem with homosexuals.

Your mom is a total b***h for NOT accepting the fact you're a lesbian.

No offense if any taken.

Yes, your mom is behaving very ignorant. Are your family christian fundamentalists?

I sympathize with you Space. What your mother said was ignorant and stupid. After all, why would anyone CHOOSE to be gay in such a world.

DISCLAIMER: Mitch did not actually say this, doctored version to prove a point. Refer to his original post for what he actually did say.

Ah, then you can forget winning an argument with her. Such people are so brainwashed that they won't change their opinions even if common sense is shoved down their throaths. Not meaning to speak badly of your family of course.

Just don't let it bring you down. Its her loss if she fails to accept you for the person you are.
My ex-girlfriend always tried to desperately live up to her mothers expectations about ideal weight, high education etcetra etcetra. She is very depressed because of it. So don't let others opinions bring you down

If you want to talk, you know where I am. I'll try not to be too paternalistic (I'm only two years older than you, after all) but if I can help you out, I will. :)

Space Case, I just want to say that I can somewhat understand what you are going through with your mom. A few years ago, my teen aged daughter came out to me, said she was bi. Well, I got really upset with her, and we did nothing but fight. Then she joined a group which claimed it was a support group for gay youth, but turned out to be a front for something unsafe. It took a scare like that to shake me up, and make me realize that no matter her orientation, she is still my daughter and I love her. I also read as much as I could, both fiction and non-fiction, until I got to total acceptance of homosexuality. I realized that my initial reaction was fear based, and I had to get past that. We now talk freely, and I can be there for her when she has relationship difficulties. Hope your mother comes around to accepting, because it can be very painful for both people. Hang in there, and know that you are accepted at WP
