To all of you punks who get on the Internet and b***h about how much your parents suck...

My parents are complex people, like me. They're definitely not abusive, nor are they a perfect supercouple. In high school they pushed me to my limits, not for any selfish purposes, but because they knew inside that I was capable of doing great things if I put my mind to it. I was, and I still am, disciplined whenever I act out or misbehave; if you try to bring your attitude problems out on MY parents, your ass is going to be in a sling, because they don't take it, I s**t you not.

So what if your computer gets taken away from you? They survived without Facebook, Google, etc., making do with what they had. So what if you're grounded from your Ploystation/HEXbox 360/WeeWee? Your parents played a game, a game that got them to where there are now in your life: the roles of your mother and father. Soon, you're going to realize that you're playing that same game
too. It's called:

LIFE, b***h.
And you are losing it.
So get up off your ass and play that game instead of WoW.
It's right outside that bedroom door.
Go ahead and open it.

Well said!

I think I could do pretty well without having a computer as long as I was in an area where I could find a computer I could use for occasional research.

Wow, I had to check to see if I wrote that rant. Mental toughness is an asset and more people should cultivate it in themselves.

My father was an abusive, alcoholic bigot who blamed me for just about everything that went wrong for him since the day he was involved in my conception. There seemed to be a bully waiting to pounce and pound on me lurking everywhere outside my dad's house from the day I entered kindergarten to the day I graduated from high school. My first wife was an alcoholic and a junkie, and she self-medicated to treat her bipolar disorder while she was cheating on me with the man she eventually divorced me for and married. Enlisting in the military after the age of 30 was no picnic, either.

Yet ... here I am ... having earned an MSEE and marrying a beautiful Asian woman who loves me for being me. Life can be good, even for an abused Aspie -- fate is what you make, not what others make for you.

I am lucky, I have a roof over my head, and my parents usually tolerate me  I live in inland California and every day I see people who once had the world at their feet, now living out of cars and begging on street corners. I went to the post office and got confronted by a guy who begged me to let him clean my car windows for $1, I don't carry cash so I had to decline. But it was obvious that the guy wasn't a typical bum. I talked with a beggar outside a Wal Mart, he had infected wounds from being stabbed for the money he'd collected, yet couldn't afford a doctor. I have a place to live and a car and food, so I'm doing relatively well.

So we just need to shut up, ignore our problems and soldier on? D'oh, why didn't I think of that??
Thou shalt not sit on your behind, and more importantly: thou shalt not play games apart from the one true game.

Well, thanks for educating us, Sensei.

No ... for one thing, there is a difference between whining and constructive complaining. The former just annoys people, while the latter draws the attention of people who can do something to help you to your problems.

Ignoring your problems won't make them go away -- I'm still an Aspie, after all. I've just fought hard and long to overcome the disadvantages, and I still do it every day -- that is what it means to "Soldier On".

This really only applies to those who had healthy, normal people as parents. Unfortunately, many here have not. the ones who were physically, sexually and emotionally abused have every right to vent. However, we all are responsible for our own lives and the path they take from this point forward, especially if we are independent adults. On that I think we can agree.

I don't care if my computer gets taken away and I have no internet access, I can always find another way to occupy myself.

If you put it that way, I don't have any problem with it, it's a good attitude to fight for what you want in life.

But if someone starts calling everyone who expresses sadness as "punks who b*tch and play WoW all day", this has nothing to do with inspiring people to do their best but simply is a display of arrogance.

It's also questionable if it's up to you to define for someone else what "whining" is and whether or not they're allowed to do it. I could argue that the OP is whining about other people being too whiny. The post just doesn't strike me as particularly helpful or constructive, but of course that may just be my impression.

I could agree, if this were not The Haven, where "whining" is permitted, and even encouraged.

You're not alone. We all need to vent, once in a while.

I wasn't blasting kids with parental issues as a whole, just a segment which prefer to invent reasons why they think their parents suck.
