I got a Visa Debit Card so I could make online purchases. I was able to buy my iMac, but only after calling my bank three or four times to get it to go through. Then I bought an Action Replay Gamecube. Today I tried to make a purchase and it says my address is wrong, even though I have entered it EXACTLY as it says on my bank statement. I went to two or three different stores trying to buy this thing and I got the same problem from all but one, at walmart.com you get the ever craptacular "Verified by Visa", I entered all my information right and it still says it's wrong. This is utter BS! On a god damn Friday! I won't be able to get ahold of my bank until Monday to fix this! I'm sick and tired of these ridiculous security measures, THE DAMN THING SHOULD WORK.

Online electronics retailers are very uneasy about shipping to addresses
not on the billing statement.

Yeah credit card company are slimeballs. I had atleast 6 cards but canceled all but
one to avoid having to deal with them.

I just buy gift cards in bulk and then use them online.

So is your bank statement wrong then? A rule in retrospect: don't use a card (or a checkbook) before you've verified the info! Hope the bank gets this all straightened out.

Also be careful not to spend too much on a debit - unlike a credit card, all that money comes directly out of your bank account in one lump right after the card is swiped. You don't have the luxury of monthly payments like you do on a real credit card. That makes it REALLY EASY to overdraw yourself, and each overdraw could cost you $30 or more. And try to stick to your own bank's branches when you take out cash from ATMs. Some bank other than your own will charge you a couple bucks to use their machine.

Keep close track of your purchases, and don't buy anything unless you KNOW you've got the money in the bank to back up the card. Be careful.

The thing is I've made very large purchases before without such problems.

My bank has an ATM so close to me I don't even have to go outside to get to it.

My mind registered this topic as "Vista sucks."

I can't use credit cards because I always overspend.
