Can't work on project....
It makes no sense. Nowadays, I have a lot of free time and there's a project I really, really want to work on, but I just can't get myself to continue it. I usually work on and off with the project, but I haven't worked on it at all for the past few months now. There must be a good reason why, but I can't seem to figure out why. Life is getting more frustrating too after each passing day.
Edit: I'm also sick of being on social welfare. It makes me feel more and more bad about being on it, yet there isn't really that much I can do about it right now. Could that be a reason why I lack motivation?
It is indeed a challenge to work up motivation when you don't have specific goals in mind. Maybe it would help if you do a small part of your project and set that as the goal for the day, then you will build momentum to further the project. It works for me when I'm depressed and want to just accomplish something, even if it may seem trivial it still counts. ![]()
I experience this too. I have serveral programming projects I want to finish but it is very hard to actually get started.
What might helps is if you have an oversight of the complete project. I find that as projects grow there's hundreds of details I have to remember to fix and that just sort of overflows in my head, making me procrastinate.
Start making a list of everything you have to do, make it as detailed as possible. Once you have that list you can start putting it into a logical order. Now you have a huge list that might seem daunting but every little thing you do is something you can check of on the list.
Another thing that I find helpful is that if I talk to someone about the project. Talking about it makes me enthusiastic about it and more likely to actually start working on it again. Once I get started it's usually quite easy to keep going too, sometimes for weeks at a time.
Thanks for replying! I do have specific goals (well, sorta), but I think the hardest part is getting started. Once I get started, I can get something small done and feel great afterwards. I think I have some "I'll do it tomorrow" problem... tomorrow never comes.
Yeah, I think that even if it's just for 10 minutes at first, I'll try to just get right to it and just get into a habit. Now that I think of it, my executive functioning improved because I just kept at it for some time and now it's like I just do that now.
Again, thanks for replying! (:
