My mom has been really concerned about me eating so much sugar lately, and she should since I'm diabetic. So we agreed that since I can't seem to control my spending on sugary treats with a defined budget, that I should keep my debit card over at her place for a while as I work through sugar withdrawal. It worked with my tendency to get takeout food all the time, now we're trying it again with sugar. I tried giving myself, say, $200/mo and no more for food, and I still spend it in a week because I'm eating treats. I'm addicted to sugar and need to stop the impulsive spending on it (I have ADHD, too).

Have you tried diabetic chocolate/candy before?

My experience has been that sugar withdrawals can be awful.

I have read there is a correlation between eating sugary foods and serotonin levels. That may help explain why a friend of mine who suffered dreadful depression was also a major big-time sugar addict.

Sometimes (but only sometimes) what can help my sugar cravings is to brush my teeth then rinse thoroughly with a mouthwash.

Otherwise... thoughts and prayers are with you. Jonesing for a twinkie is not fun.
