I just got back from a vacation visiting my cousins in my mom's family. While there was a little fighting, overall everything was okay. Now, two days after getting back, nothing is okay.

College-wise, I've pretty much given up on the local community college. I have funds to attend a technical school or something like that, but those funds are locked in an account that my dad controls. I stopped attending classes with a month to go in the semester, so my GPA is a 0.0. I don't have any idea how to convince my dad to sign over access of the funds to my control; after all, I am over 18 and he's only tied to the account because he set it up when I was a minor.

The other thing that's really bothering me is that the cousins that I mentioned (the only cousins I'm close to) are Jewish. I was baptized about 6 months ago into a Methodist church. The church "sank", so to speak, and I went to a Baptist church after moving. Even though I don't practice (though not out of malice) Judaism, I am of Jewish descent and I can't sit around and hear everyone talk about how Jewish people and Islamic people are going to hell because they never accepted Christ.

Last but not least, I'm feeling lonely and I really wish I was in a loving, caring relationship. I'm trying to be optimistic about it. I'm using OkCupid right now and while I have found people to talk to, I don't feel like I've made many connections. I also don't feel like many people want to make connections with me. I probably look like a big, goofy, klutzy kid, which is pretty much who I am I guess. I go by the username icomefromspace (could someone take a look at my profile and tell me if there's anything I could do better?).

I'm really trying to stay optimistic, but I'm losing my grip. Not suicide... yet. I feel the need to get away. Far away. And while I used to be good at computers (as a career option, but only for the money), my depression sucked everything out of me. Computers are no longer fun. I'm more interested in acoustical instruments and traveling.

Can someone please help me? I've tried therapy and hated it. I'm at a loss of words in terms of ways to fix my problems; maybe someone else has some words they could loan me. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Edit: I forgot to mention, but as a note, I have a strange urge to dye my hair (yet I pull my hair, so what hair I have left) and paint my nails (no, I am not a homosexual or considering becoming one). What color? Orange reminds me of the tiger Hobbes, but I could do purple too. Dye my hair, change my name, and go someplace far away. Very weird.

It sounds like you are drifting into a kind of never-never land. I would say halt that progression and work on getting your head on straight. Think basic priorities. A job, a place to live, food to eat, but on your own as soon as possible. Living with parents, etc, just prolongs not being fully engaged in your own survival and life.

Okay, so I looked at your profile like you asked. I actually really liked it - you sound like a fun, cool person. :)

My suggested tweaks:
Delete: (Yes, I know, I picked the stupidest username in the world.)
- It comes across like you're really negative about yourself and put yourself down a lot. While I would try to change that in general, I would at least try to not show it on your profile. I have friends like that (who are, not coincidentally, Aspies) and it's just depressing to be around because (a) negativity and (b) you know you'll never be able to convince them how awesome they really are because they'll just think you're lying to make them feel better.

Delete: Being tired (I'm pretty sure I have insomnia, and I'm pretty sure it doesn't like me) :-(
- I'm a tired person, too, but that's definitely seen as more of a negative than a positive or even a quirk and I'd hold off on mentioning it until you meet the person.

As for your other problems, I'd suggest medication (for which you'd have to see a psychiatrist) and exercise. If you're anything like me, that's the last thing you'll want to do when you're feeling depressed, but it really is as good as medication when it comes to combatting depression.

I also find that volunteering really helps me feel more connected to things and better about myself, so I'd suggest that, too.

Good luck!! !! !! !! !! !! ! :)

Toy_Soldier, that's probably the best advice I've been given. I'm currently looking for a job and trying to survive my family's warefare. Thanks.

Have you considered Americorps?

It strikes me as having everything you could want (even Christians that don't think Jewish people all go to hell).
