What personally can I expect after I die?

Is there any hypothesis that on the other side, after you die, you can get and do whatever things you want? I'm not talking about specific theories from the major religions, I'm wanting to know if such a theory exists where when we physically die here, we go to a place of peace, and not really the conventional "playing harps on clouds and worshipping God" thinking of after-death. I don't want to die soon, but if I were, I say I would be in a state of peace. This may not be the peace in the conventional religious or spiritual sense.
But I'll tell you what if what happens after you die was whatever you made it to be. I don't think this is that unique of a viewpoint.

Yes, it's that simple. And yes, I am a real romantic at these times. I don't see the future of man on Earth is getting any better. If I could travel and live in the past, that would be some of my ideas of comfort.

Does this make sense at all? Or am I doomed to some specific concept of worshipping a God for infinity?

when you die, you stop existing. if absence of strife is peace, then, yes, peace. your body returns to the earth, stardust still.

I'm kind of open-minded, so if it's oblivion, I guess I can accept that somewhat.

no one knows for sure, but all the evidence we have (or lack of evidence) points in that direction.

What you're proposing is the afterlife being like a holo deck on Star Trek, where you make who and whatever you want come forth. Sounds good to me, and maybe you can, but sooner or later, you'd do everything you can imagine, become bored, and be ready to leave behind Earthly desires and become a pure soul. THEN they'll let you into Heaven, cause you were just in the waiting room before.

At least that's how I imagine it.

don't fret, OP- there are a few of us believers with which for you to compare notes.

I doubt you can design your own afterlife. There isn't a single piece of evidence for any such thing. I mean I know I am no super being. I can't keep even houseplants alive and I burn the dinner.

I don't think there are actually any religions that have you sitting on clouds playing harps either.

All religions or personal beliefs ultimately require you trust something without hard current evidence. If you are going to do it, just be sure its worthwhile and not harmful to you or anyone.

lots of people by now have had OOBEs and told about it. my grandfather, way back when, died and was resuscitated on the operating table, and he would not say anything about what happened while he was gone except to say that he was no longer afraid of death.

If I have to be reborn on this planet it's gonna suck.

I'm not gonna be in any hurry to reincarnate again.
