It's only the middle of the semester and I'm already feeling burnt out. I don't feel like studying or working on my papers at all... I had been so enthusiastic in the beginning of the semester though...It seems that oftentimes I lack the perseverence to live up to the initial enthusiasm...Any word of advice? I have a paper due in two days...and I don't feel like working on them...I have to hand in some forms, I mean I should have handed them in the day before yesterday...and I don't feel like working on those either...I need some fresh energy...initiating energy...

All I can think of is something that helps with housework. Do only 15 minutes at a time. And no more, so that you know it'll only be 15 minutes. Set a timer. Getting anything done at all is better than nothing.

Um, what's your term paper about?

Hey, ahayes, Claradoon, thank you for your responses... and the 15 minute a time sounds great...It's kinda comforting to think that I can work for just 15 minutes and then decide whether to continue or not... My paper is on Freud...

Woohoo! Freud! I wish it was Jung, I know a lot about his stuff. Well - wanna cheat? How long is your paper supposed to be? I love to write.

about 3 pages...I'd rather not cheat...but thanks for your offer of help! I am interested in Jung as well...I mean...Freud is interesting and everything but he is coming from a different place from me...it makes it all the more provoking, but it's hard to write this paper on him because the assignment is to try to think like Freud and write what he would have said about a certain phenomenon...I think Jung is mind-boggling...One of my favourite authors is a Jungian psychologist...how I'd like to be like her! :)

I would like to learn more about Jung's ideas.

I was in Jungian analysis for a few years. It's the best thing that ever happened to me.

How many things have happened to you? Sorry if this is a personal question. It involves archetypes, does it not, as well as the concepts of introversion and extraversion? He was interested in mythology as well as dreams, and used the Alchemic symbol of the ouboros (a serpent swallowing its own tail) for his clinic.

That's something like what I do. I will do a half-hour of housework, then a half-hour (or more) of playing on the computer, then go back and do another half-hour, and so on. I also tackle one issue at a time. So if I am cleaning out my closet (like I did this afternoon) I don't worry about the dishes.

Sunnycat - Winston Churchill said that success is the ability to go from failure to failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm. By his own example, that enthusiasm can get pretty grim, but he kept going and he won. You too!

Do you know about FlyLady?
http://www.flylady.com/
That's where I found the hint re 15 minute time slots. I don't know if she's gotten around to students yet, but the principles are the same, and they work.

But I am unable to find it! Shouldn't it be near the top of the forum, just under the "sticky" threads?
