There are all sorts of ads that annoy me, to be honest. Household cleaner ads are quite annoying, especially when it involves an "idiotic" guy who makes a mess then his "brilliant" girlfriend/wife comes along and cleans it using the product. That just reeks of sexism, but somehow it's socially acceptable because it doesn't portray women in a negative light. I hate double standards.
Ads for mediocre food products annoy me too. No, I don't find "Oh Henry!" bars irresistable, they're just average candy bars that don't even have a real chocolate coating. "Chocolate bar" is the normal Canadianism for what Americans would call a "candy bar", but I don't think "Oh Henry!" bars deserve that title. Damn, now I'm sort of craving one. If they stepped things up, and maybe used real chocolate, then I might become a fan. In the meantime, I'll keep eating Kit Kats. The ads for Reese Peanut Butter Cups are f*****g lame too, and my god I don't even think those things have anything resembling real peanut butter in them.
When I was younger (and ironically a non-drinker), I really liked beer commercials because they often contained "edgy" humor and attractive women. Nowadays, I find them to be tame and boring. Not as annoying as other types of commercials, sure, but nothing special.
Fast food ads really get my goat, especially when I'm watching American channels and they're showing ads for some burger or restaurant you can't even find in Canada. I want to try that Hardee's burger with the fried jalapenos and brisket so bad, but I'll never find anything like it on a Canadian burger chain's menu. At least we have poutine, and McDonald's didn't manage to completely screw it up.
Ads for dating services drive me nuts too, especially the ones for Christian Mingle ("Find God's match for you?" I seriously doubt there's actually any divine intervention going on behind the scenes, and even if I believed it were possible, I doubt the Judeo-Christian God would be in favor of a dating site, especially one named after a prejorative term for his followers) and those telephone dating services. If I want to find "hot, local singles", I'm pretty sure I can do that on Facebook without being charged $10 a minute.
