Worried about my kitty.

My neighbour called a few hours ago to tell me that he'd seen a cat that looked like mine run over at the bottom of the road. He said the cat looked like he'd injured his leg, but he managed to go down a driveway into someone's back garden. When I went there, there was no sign of him.
I just can't find him anywhere. I've asked neighbours to check in their gardens and there's a big field at the back where Mr Spud goes most days. I've been walking around there, calling him but I can't find him. There are some very rough places with long grass that I just can't get to, and it's a huge field. If he'd heard me though I'm sure he'd have come. I'm worried now that he's injured somewhere and can't move.

I've phoned all the local vets and they've not had any injured cats taken to them. Mr Spud's been microchipped anyway so if he's been handed in anywhere, they would phone me.

It might not have been Mr Spud that was run over, but my neighbour thought it looked like him, and he's been missing for hours. I hate just sitting around waiting to see if he turns up so I'm going to have another walk around, see if I can find him. I know there's not much anyone can say. If I find him I'll post again.

A dog that liked to chase cats could smell him out.

Thanks TM1, panic over, he's just come in now. Not a mark on him, walking fine, so I can only think it was another black and white cat that my neighbour saw. Anyway, I hope the other cat is OK. Maybe he went home and they took him to the vets.

Nan, I would love him to be an indoor cat but he just isn't. I had another cat who died a while ago. She never went over the doorstep and was completely happy to spend all day indoors. Mr Spud came to us as a stray, obviously had spent a lot of time wandering around, thin and looking for a home. We took him to the vets for a check up and he said to keep him indoors for three weeks, so he would settle down and feel at home. Well, after a couple of hours he was so desperate to get out he even tried to climb up the chimney! Then he would howl at the door...I couldn't stand to see him like that. He's so outdoorsy, spends hours in 'his' field, hunting, and visiting neighbours homes. Two different neighbours have found him asleep on their bed after climbing in through the window!
Of course, this means that I worry. And if I ever get another cat it I will keep it indoors from an early age so that's what it gets used to. But for Mr Spud, I can't. It's his nature, even if he worries me at times.

oh, this reminds me of when I lost my Slinky. Black tabby that streched 38 inches from tail tip to streched out leg. . .and with that black ribbing circuling his long long torso. well, You can guess why I called him Slinky!
My best hope is the guy that caught cats in a Havahart trap and turned them into the Humane Society down in town. I saw him there a couple of times when I searched and searched in vain for the Slinker and he said he did go up into the mountians where I lived from time to time, but he didn't remember, he had trapped so many kitties and turned them in. (don't get me started about how I felt about THAT!)
But after a couple of years went by, I stopped by the local Citizens Allied Tocarefor Strays
and found my Shanghai, my 'mackushla'. And he has a microchip and a tatto with me AND the shelter's addresses, email and phone numbers listed.

I keep him inside, though he was a stray and the instinct strong, goes out supervised from time to time, but, even though I live in town now, I want to keep him away from the coyotes that howled in the evening dusk out on the mountian when I lost Slinky there.

I, too, have tried to make an established out door cat an inside p**** cat and can appreciate not being able to manage the change! They call on all their kitty ancestors and go all feral on you in a heart beat. Cats can know their own minds and have pretty developed personalty that can dissapoint those who are moved to help them.

so, time goes on just as much when you lose a kitty or if you didn't. And you care again and care still, but each cat is different and it is an honor to share earth space and communicate with them.

Oh, Starr! Hoping your kitty is okay. It is the hardest thing in the world not knowing what happened to an animal you love.

Yes, it's awful when they go missing and you never know what happened to them. You hope that maybe if they've got lost they've wandered in somewhere and found another home.
We've had a few strays over the years and we've tried to find their original owners but with no luck.
My friend once had a cat go missing and searched everywhere for it. After a few months she thought it was gone for good and decided to get another one. When she went to the shelter to pick one, there was her lost kitty! The strange thing was that my friend wasn't at the cat shelter nearest to her, but one about 40 miles away, she was calling in on the way home from holiday. So how did it get there? The shelter said the cat had been picked up locally, so it must have travelled a long distance. Amazing really.
I've not heard any news on the other cat but I'll ask around today. Fingers crossed.

My neighbor had this cat named Bagheera, a couple of times he's run off for three days at a time, I was always really relieved when he came back. He and I were pretty good friends but he wasn't the most forgiving of cats, fortunately he wasn't a very good biter.

i have one (very strange) kitty who loves to hide.. i moved into a new house with him (he was not happy about the move) and could not find him at the end of the first day. granted stuff was all over the place, but i just HAD to find him. looked high and low for him...

he turned up in the silverware drawer... all sprawled out like the davinci man on his belly in the drawer... musta crawled in through the back and squidged his way into the drawer itself... no way he could hav gotten out on his own either. don't think ive ever seen him as proud of himself.

Hehehe, they make you laugh don't they. That reminds me of the day we got our previous cat from the rescue centre. We brought her home and then had to go out again to do some shopping. When we came home we couldn't find her anywhere. Oh, we were frantic! We'd only had her an hour and we'd lost her. I thought she must have somehow sneaked out when we'd opened the front door and not knowing the area could be anywhere. My husband cycled around the estate looking for her and I searched the house. I noticed I'd left my towel cupboard open just a few inches. She was asleep inside, lol. Cats! I don't know about them having nine lives, but I think their owners need nerves of steel.
