Them - "Would you say this glass is half full or half empty?"
Me - "Yes"
Them - "Which one?"
Me - "both"
Them - "How'd you figure that?"
Me - <points to bottom half> "that halfs full" <points to top half> "that halfs empty"
Them - "im trying to find out if you are an optamist or a pessimist..."
Me - "but im neither.... im a realist"
Them - <puts their hands to their face and makes a groaning noise>

That's clever. I never would have thought about that. Thanks for the inspiration.
Anyway, ahayes, I've been diagnosed with depression for about as long as I've known I have AS. I only went on medication last year but let me tell it works. It doesn't turn you into a zombie or anything else you might be worried about. It just corrects a chemical imbalance in your brain that allows you to think more clearly. Combined with cognitive behavior therapy (I might not have the term exactly right, ask your doctor) it'll definitely improve your life.
You'll notice dramatic differences in probably a month or two, but you'll need to stick with it for the rest of your life, since depression doesn't disappear, convenient as that would be.
But you need to be
honest with your doctor. If you want to help yourself, you need to trust them. Their job is to help you and they are legally bound to keep everything the two of you say confidential. Which is damned good, because you'll need to tell them things you keep secret from everyone.
