I am extremely curious and furious at the difference between reality life and online world in terms of how people treat me. It is so always people doesn't treat me a same online compared to being out in the world. I am more in the world than being online like here on WP, Facebook, Youtube and that etc. Isn't it to do with my ASD and hearing loss that make people appear aggressive, rude and that online compared to reality world?

Is anyone in same situation?

I may fear that this thread probably not going to gain attention of your forumers, because it is a same problem when I post on Facebook. I am not gaining a lot of attention on Facebook when I do good things. This makes me curious....

Are you saying people that you interact with treat you poorly online, but do not treat you poorly in real life?
Or are you saying its the other way around, with them being rude in real life but not so rude online?

In what way are they treating you poorly?

I can see why you're curious about this and their certainly is a difference between face to face and online interaction. The biggest difference I come across between the two is that most of the time you're able to talk to the people you want rather than having to deal with more people around you in a face to face encounter. For some people, like myself, online conversation offers the chance to mask some of our more hindering features in social interaction and often give us more time to put our thoughts together. I could see how you're hearing loss would make online conversation earlier since, for the most part, it mainly just requires being able to see messages from others rather than face to face where, with your particular issue of hearing, you have to struggle to hear them and sort through any other background noise in the nearby area. Online conversation also allows for some people who might not normally ever talk if left to conventional face to face conversation to speak to one another. Awkward folk like myself feel just a bit less awkward when dealing with people online since some of the stress is gone. Not sure if any of this is what you were looking for or helpful, which I hope it was, but at the very least you can say you know your not alone in this situation :)

As bolded is what I mean, yes.

Like being online, I am not gaining attention especially the good things I share. Like I support equality and helping people. I gain like average of 5 likes out of 350 friends. I seen other friends posts from my newsfeed who almost have same amount of friends gets way more than 200% more likes on the same matter. It makes me feel ill because this proves that I am not popular, more of a lonely person and doesn't attract people to engage conversation with me.

In real world, including many of these Facebook friends from my list I meet. They interact so differently. Total opposite way of behaviour of attention and it is extremely friendly. It makes me feel happier and thoughtful.

Though at stages, whether they are my Facebook friends or not in the reality world I observe lot of people intending to avoid me in conversation and doesn't look at me while talking to other person. This happens all the time.

You want that attention online.

Well.. if you want to take it as a sign that you are unpopular.. you can.. but I've been around on the internet for a while now, probably 14 years now, and social media sites are just.. really sort of trash. To be quite honest, I stopped putting a lot of stock in other people.. especially when it was unrealistic stock.

The issue with online interactions is that people can often read far too much into something, you can make a post sound really angry or really happy, or subjectively neutral, if you think of that as you read things or you encounter them..

Change your thinking, people probably don't like your statuses because they're just doing what they do. As they are people and they are not here to serve one individual just as we're not here to do that either. Putting your thoughts down on a website is no different than writing in a journal sometimes, and often its best to think of it like that and stop expecting people's responses.

Might also note that just because people don't respond to statuses or like them, or whatever, doesn't mean they automatically dislike you.. People are a bit more complicated than that.

So I bet I have to deal with this stupid ASD and hearing loss challenges for rest of my life because everyday I go and do things it frustrates me. I am like making a great effort to be capable of doing things, but people doesn't reflect. I felt like I don't belong in the mainstream where everybody is fit into and they care about each others in exception of me.

*Crickets chirping*

I been thinking to delete my account today. I am too negative person online. I don't know how I am. I can't control because there is nothing I can do. I see stuff online makes me totally unhappy all the time. But I don't know how to delete it because too many knew I would for many years because I posted saying I will delete it but never did. They kept saying don't, then I followed them.

Deleting Facebook for after 7 years is making life weirder and less tactic. People don't text anymore. I would become more of a hermit or being ignored because people don't really message me and say how you going and that, want to hang out and stuff etc. I don't get that really.

Hey Matt,

The truth is most people are too wrapped up in their own lives to care. So it's really about them, not you. I used to feel a lot of what you're feeling, and I had to realize that it wasn't an issue of me being unimportant, but of people being focused on themselves. And since they're dealing with you through a computer and not face to face, you are easier to ignore. They're probably not trying to be hurtful, but this is just the way they are. I got rid of my Facebook about two years ago, and haven't looked back. It was just a compulsive way to waste time, really. Most message boards I find unfulfilling, and I will get ignored there. I used to feel really bad about that, but I have a different view now. I think I was often ignored for writing longer, more analytical posts, and most people don't view the world that way. They may also have liked my posts, but not had anything to really add, so they posted nothing. I interpreted that as being unappreciated, but the truth is I don't know what they were thinking. When I'm online, I tend to come here, because the people think more like me. If I want to talk music, I can be analytical and it won't look incredibly out of place. I'm not posting to a bunch of people who want to speak emotionally and form little social clubs based on shared interests, which I will never really fit into anyway. So I have a better understanding of how these people may be thinking, and more realistic expectations of what I'll get from online interactions. It's made me a lot happier.

It's like if I tried meeting women who are very into sports or shopping, instead of books or things I like. I might have some luck, but I won't get far, and I'll constantly be disappointing myself. They'll be disappointed too. I'd also relate it to the years I spent trying to fit into the NT world, before I knew any of these terms or what they meant. Some days were okay, but I was ultimately unhappy and unfulfilled because I kept trying to be something I wasn't and was not finding the places where I belonged.

I don't think you're too negative. You seem thoughtful and intelligent, but I think you're engaging with things online which make you unhappy. Take a step back, take a break, and reassess your wants and what you're doing. You don't have to delete anything right away--think about it and make a decision when you're ready. Keep your account because you want to, not because everyone else wants you to. The world needs more people like you who care about things. Just because you're in the minority or feel like a lot of people don't get you doesn't mean that you're wrong. Be patient and find places where you belong and engage with people in ways which make you happy.
