If you get angry frequently, something else is going on. There's something other than what's going on at a given moment in your life most likely, some underlying issue. To deal with the anger, deal with that.

If you just get really angry at times (like not once an hour, or maybe even not as much as once a day) easiest thing I can think of is just trying to isolate yourself for a bit. If I get really angry, I usually just shut myself in my room and shut out the world until I get past it. If other people are around, they may or may not get an explanation of why I suddenly leave, all depends on whether or not I think I have the time / presence of mind to give them that courtesy.

hmmm, well, perhaps you could take up a sport like kickboxing, and regular excersise is said to help improve moods. Perhaps you have something like bi-polar disorder?

Good luck with finding out what it is.

I get really angry all the time, I've been that way since I was in school.

Running helped me way beyond what I would have expected. I started with long walks and that didn't seem to be enough of a release, but running worked well as an outlet for pent-up energy. I'd run cross country in the hills just beyond my house and occasionally I'd go to the track behind a school, either early in the day or in early evening after all the sports people had left. The track worked so well that I found I'd lose count of how many times I ran, so I took to picking up a set number of pebbles and would drop one as I passed the point where I started. I would always run alone, too, so there was no need to be friendly or even polite.

Anger seemed like a result of not burning off excess energy and after running and being tired it seemed I didn't have much energy left to get angry.

If you can't do either one, kick-boxing tapes/dvds might work - but I think anything aerobic would do.

Ive had this happen to me, but Ive often noticed that I try to stay calm through my anger and ignore it. Of course, this doesn't work most of the time, so i just keep thinking about the things bothering me and then finally something sets me off. Ive started to notice when I become angry or annoyed, before its really great, and try to take care of it then. Just by calming myself down, trying to solve the issue bothering me, realizing that its not worth getting angry over, etc. One can get over anger, but if you wait too long and let it build up, it can overwhelm you , at least it would happen to me.

I have the same issue...but I believe I am bi polar. I never realised that rage could be a symptom of it. Worth getting it checked out maybe unless you want to try the self help route of meditation, yoga and anger control exercises etc.

a coping tip I was taught when I got sober through AA

when I start to get a bit ah. . agitated and I am about to lose it I quickly go over in my mind

H. A. L. T. S.

am I too HUNGRY?

am I too ANGRY? (easy one)

am I too LONELY?

am I too TIRED? (87% of the time it is either this one or Hungry)

am I too SERIOUS?

and then I try to take care of that one little thing that can be the trip wire for explosive meltdown.

maybe it helps if you can start to understand the feelings that are building before it's too late, I had to monitor my own behaviour to figure it out, because if I didn't monitor my behavior, someone else would and I couldn't stand that!!
