Apparently, I am classified as a "vulnerable adult".
Nobody really cared that much about it when I was being financially exploited by a few different people a couple of years ago. I severed those ties, but people are telling me that I am selfish because I am not being codependent with their issues.
No, the "vulnerable adult" angle is only now an issue now because one of my closest friends in recovery just had to register as a sex offender, and now is not allowed to have any contact with me thanks to some cuntish judge. Of course, his therapist and my therapist are going to work on getting an exception so that we can continue to hang out, but it looks like a distant hope at this point.
If he was still doing the things he used to do, I would not associate with him. He takes his recovery very seriously.
So, the message I am getting is that financial exploitation at my expense is perfectly acceptable, and that I am incapable of picking my own friends in recovery.
This is so bass ackwards.
Why would you want to hang out without someone who is now a registered sex offender? Are you saying that what he did wasn't "that bad" or you saying that he has "changed"?
This is my problem with AA (if you are talking about AA anyway). Criminals go to meetings, and they hide behind pretty words at the podium, saying they have changed. But if someone has a dark history, I'm very reluctant to believe that they have changed.
Anyway, I don't know why they classified you as a "vulnerable adult." That sounds very patronizing to me. Either this person is dangerous or he/she isn't. Only you can make that decision.

What he did was consent with an adult in a public park.
Not smart, but I doubt the intent behind that was malicious.

Okay, I take back what I said. I'll have to remember not to engage in those sorts of activiites lest I be branded a sex offender for my life. I admit that's a little harsh.
