I agreed to be my boyfriend's date to a football banquet. His dad and brother will be there and it's going to be loud and the whole thing scares me. I get nervous every time I think about out it, and I kinda just needed to vent.

If you think you won't be able to handle the noise, just tell him that you can't handle it and that you don't want to go. I'm pretty sure he would understand. You don't have to go if you don't want to

Or you could wear earmuffs to the event.

Maybe, just keep telling yourself "This is only temporary----this is only temporary", while you're there; it might help to calm you down, and you'll actually find yourself having a GOOD time.

I find that the more I'm exposed to something, the easier it gets----for instance, a noisy environment. Conversely, the LESS I'm exposed to something, the TOUGHER it is----NOTHING is more loud / disturbing than a sound I hear after having been in peaceful quiet, all day.

You could just picture them all naked, on second thought that might make it worse.

I was a kid and my mom brought me to a carnival. We went inside a circus tent, and the performance was so loud I felt like I was going to explode. I begged my mom for us to leave. By the time I convinced her to leave, though, I discovered that I'd gotten slightly used to the noise, and the performers were doing some really cool things. It was too late though. By the time I'd realized I wanted to stay, we were already out. No going back, my mom said.

Who knows? Maybe you'll enjoy at least some part of the experience you didn't know you would.

Have you talked to him about how you feel? I'm sure he wants you to go, but it might be a good idea to tell him how you feel so he can help reduce your anxiety about it.

What part or aspect of it do you feel most scared about? The idea of a football banquet sounds the worst thing in the world, but thats largely as it involves the word football. Though it would stress me out aside from that too.

I wasn't so much worried about the noise as I was worried about being around his family. It's over now though.
