Warning: exceptionally whiny post.

So I've been fighting a nasty flu for the past 3 days. It's only today that I've even been able to get up. I told my mother and she says it's my fault for not getting the flu shot. I told my friend, but he isn't answering his email. It just scares me how alone I am.
Plus I got a note from the Hospital today setting up an appointment with the Cancer Centre. My doctor mentioned something about a sore on my face when I saw her last. She said something about plastic surgery, but I didn't really know what she was talking about.
I'm a little shocked at this, but it makes sense. My father, who died of cancer, use to get similar sores. I guess the doctor didn't want to startle me, but the appointment note sure did.

Thanks :)

My doctor keeps pestering me to go for a colonoscopy, but I don't want to. It's not because of the procedure being a literal pain in the butt; it's because if I do have cancer I don't want to do anything about it. My Dad fought it for the last 20 years of his life. He had surgeries and radiation and chemo. When he died his body was a mess. I don't want to go like that, I don't want to fight it. But how do I tell my doctor this? They are so pro health care. I just want to wait til the cancer starts to hurt me and then go straight to palliative care. But then again, maybe I don't have it.

I can't believe your mother told you it's your fault you got the flu because you didn't get a flu shot! The flu shot doesn't even protect against all flu strains. It's not as if it's a guarantee.

The flu is awful. I was very ill the last time I had it. I hope you get better soon.

Sometimes there are spots in the face that are pre-cancerous or look suspicious for skin cancer. Who knows what it is.

Get a colonoscopy. They aren't that bad. I had one because of family history, even though I'm much younger than most who get them. I was absolutely fine, and felt ok afterwards.

She's a twit.

Thank you. I was feverish the other day and didn't have a clue what was going on. It would have made me feel safer if someone was around.

I guess I'll go and find out.

I just figure it's inevitable that I get cancer. I know this is irrational. I'll get the test.

I was worried, too. My colon is completely healthy (I'm sure everyone wanted to know that, lol). I'm glad that you are going to get the test. Taking good care of yourself can help keep a lot of illnesses away, even cancer.

I'm glad you're getting the colonoscopy.

The worst part is the day that you have to only eat broth.

I hope that's the worst part.

It's definitely the worst part.

They give you a general anaesthetic for the procedure.

It's no big deal.

You do need to have someone go to the clinic with you when you will be having the colonoscopy, and go home with you after. Where I live, they won't let it be a cab ride, it must be someone who will stay with you. I suppose your mother would be willing?

It took me quite a few years of saying "I told you so" before my daughter would get a flu shot ... or even brush her teeth regularly. I'm sure I've been called a twit, and worse. I can live with that.

But I'm sorry you're suffering with it. I hope your cat is good to you. Remember to drink enough fluids, dehydration is not healthy for a person with flu.

I don't think they give you a general. That would knock you right out which really isn't necessary. The worst part would be if I have cancer. There is an elevated risk of this, that is why they want to do the test.

Some years I get it, some I don't. This year they said it didn't cover a lot of the flus anyway. I just wish her first instinct wasn't to blame and marginalize me.

I didn't get the flu shot until late this year, even though I'm really supposed to because it could be dangerous for me to get the flu. If I got the flu, I'd be pretty angry if all I heard was "You should've gotten the flu shot. It's your own fault."

I didn't delay getting the shot because I didn't want to get it; I just couldn't remember to do it until late.

I felt like I was going to die the last time I got it. I was very, very ill. Horrible, terrible experience. I had a pretty bad case, though.
