Stimming: Hand-flapping or hand-clapping?

I stimmed as a child, and continue to do so as an adult. It was worse when I was a child. All the material I have read by professionals and clinicians talk about hand- and finger-flapping as a stim. But clapping is rarely, if ever, mentioned. When I stim in this way (I also rock back-and-forth, both independently of, and sometimes when, I hand-stim), I do flap my fingers a bit, but I twirl my fingers around much more, and flap my hands a bit, but the most dominant manifestation of this stim (more especially when I was a child) is a series of hand=claps in rapid succession. Does anyone out there hand-clap instead of hand-flap when they hand-stim?

Wow! One response, but after that . . . nothing. I would have thought that more people on the spectrum would have liked to talk about stimming. I am somewhat disappointed. But since I am relatively new to WP, perhaps stimming has been talked to death on this website.

I hand-flap but only when I'm also rocking back and forth. Clapping is for specific situations like at the end of a play or recital to congratulate the performer(s). Doing it any other time is weird to me. Even after speeches and presentations in class, clapping is unnatural for me.

I have a coworker who is dyslexic but does not have ASD who frequently claps her hands just because.
