So the news has come to me "unofficially" that everyone in my workplace will have to reapply for our jobs. Thanks s isn't a white collar job, and it doesn't offer much so wtf?

I don't like what I hear about job changes, and I don't like the speeches we heard about valuing employee retention after hearing this bombshell. If I have to reapply, I'm also throwing in applications for more financially rewarding jobs after this crap. I took the job because of regular hours and low stress conditions--which have now flown the coop.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Man....that sucks!

I hope you get the more financially-rewarding job for which you've applied.

I hope this financially-rewarding job carries with it less stress.

Thanks, me too. This is for a fairly unskilled job where I make a few bucks over minimum wage, I think the upper management has their heads in a collective cloud of whatever they're smoking.

Sounds like something an idiot like Trump would do.

I have been at my job for 9 years now and am at the end of my rope. My boss is to put it nicely a complete f^$@#ing moron. I can't believe after all the time and money HR spent to find him (and that's a novel in and of itself) that was the best they could come up with. As of now, three of the four people he hired this year (at great expense) have already quit and the fourth sure sounds like she has one foot out the door. As well, a third of my department is out on long term stress/medical leave and this is for an easy, unionized job! I just shake my head and wonder when the higher ups are going to clue in that something is seriously wrong. My boss was once looking at resumes and mentioned how someone with a University degree would never stay so it's pointless to interview them. It took all I had to resist smacking him and I just politely pointed out my nearly decade of service should show evidence to the contrary. He instead hired someone who lasted two weeks before going off on medical leave. That's not even mentioning the guy who got hired with no experience, no qualifications into a $50,000/yr job that he is completely incompetent at. Almost 10 years later they have made no attempt to get rid of him even though it's obvious he cannot handle it and his workload will soon be high enough to leave the atmosphere.

Seems like I always end up working for morons. My first employer is spending probably a million dollars renovating by taking out green racking that's in perfect shape and replacing it with white racking that looks almost identical. Did anyone ever hear of paint?

This is an open invitation for you to brush up the old resume, the references, and the interviewing skills ... and spread those around to other employers while also re-applying for your current job.

Good luck!

I have a phone interview next week for a better opportunity. Fingers crossed! :D

The only bummer is losing my vacation, but that would have probably happened anyway.

I feel for you. Bureaucratic idiocy never ceases to amaze me.

That's a sure mark of either outright prejudice, or a fear on the part of the boss that he himself will be exposed as not very bright.

There's an old saying: A-grade people prefer to hire A-grade people, but B-grade people prefer to hire C-grade people.

I'm starting to believe that. I am taking courses now in the area where Mr. Incompetent works in and I will bet that if we both apply for the same job in the near future, he will get it based on his "experience", even though my qualifications and work history are FAR superior to the point it's not even debatable. Not to sound arrogant but I am one of the best in my department and am well liked while he hides in his office all day to avoid accountability for never doing his job.

That's not even getting into my previous boss, where I recently encountered undeniable proof he flat out refused to interview anyone with African heritage by filtering out resumes from black areas or people with black sounding names. Go figure that our best worker by a wide margin was a black guy, only hired because he was forced to hire a minority. I used to think racial quotas were BS until I saw how the business world REALLY works!
