A month ago, my father got into a drunk driving incident. He backed his truck into a neighbor's oncoming car. I have never been more ashamed of my father's alcoholism to the point where I would gladly go back in time and stop my parents from meeting just so they can have better lives without each other and me. I don't know why my parents are still together at this point despite so much. So we payed money for vehicle damages, payed money to get a lawyer to defend my father in court, payed money for a breathalyzer to be installed in my dad's truck, and we're paying money to have it monitored for six months. We're officially scraping for the month and all bills are due Friday. This reminds me of the crap we went through back in the Spring of 2013 except what happened then was all unexplained coincidences. That accident last month could have been avoided, but my father drinks to cope with his own personal problems and family baggage. I hate my father. I don't want to give up on my hobbies as a gamer just because we can't afford it all because my father spent all morning to afternoon drinking in the garage that fateful day. If things get really bad, I'm working up the nerve to propose a temporary move out just to cut my losses from everyone else's. I'll take all my stuff with me. I'm tired of watching my own parents' financial self destruction by will or by force year after year after year since 2013. I'll probably stay with my grandparents until my parents gets their **** straightened out.

It might good for everyone moving out. I know it removes huge strain on any family. The only reason we can manage it under 18 is because that's before the parents get overwhelmed. The less people in a family, the more freedom he will have.

However freedom causes problems as well, so even if you move out you should still keep an eye on him. Motivate him using different means, because having an addiction can't be solved simply by requesting that some stops and telling them they're willingly screwing themselves. He would've stopped doing so much damage if he was in control.

Maybe rehabilitation? I also don't know your personal relationship with your father and I'm not sure if he's abusive, aggressive, etc. but from what it seems you don't have the best relationships. You should work on that and I think family comes before hobbies, as bad as that may sound to some people. He's got two options, to stop and to lose financial help from his other family members, or to get himself help (actual help) and recover over time.

He's not drinking so much now because of the state we're in. He's easier to get along with, but I still can't forgive him for the incident. You've seen people drink just to feel 10 feet tall and bulletproof right? Even though he's survived a heart attack two years ago, it's a sign when the body says he can't keep this up for much longer and yet he ignored those warning signs up until Johnny Law got involved last month. He spent two hours in jail. That had to be a bigger sign to put a lid on the drinking.
