My grandfather has passed away yesterday morning but I didn't find out till dinner break at work at 8:45 PM. My Dad told me when I called him when I saw he had called . My family will be holding a service about him on Thursday and he will be cremated. He was very sick and died of old at age 88. I don't know how I'm supposed to feel.

Yeah. It's always hard to tell. Nice thing is,
people tend to understand, and you shouldn't
be worrying about how you're SUPPOSED to
feel. Just do what you do. If you seem cold,
it comes off as 'strong,' anything else is seen
alright too.

Getting drunk is a bad choice though.
I'd avoid that. My grandmother got
drunk at her husbands funeral, and
it helped cause some irreparable
damage.

At a time like this you have to be true to yourself.

You should feel how you feel you should. You dont have to feel guilty if you are not overcome with grief, maybe you are happy that he is at peace. Maybe you are remembering some good times you had together and this makes you feel happy.

Whatever the feeling dont worry about the reason you feel that way. People cope with loss differently depending on a vast multitude of factors.

I hope this helps.

You feel how you feel...there is no set criteria.
Some grieve, some do not.
Depends how close you were.
I mean, I tend to feel grief is a little selfish anyway as it is human need and want that results in grief, not any real sadness for the person...who isn't aware of their fate anyways.
IT is often a relief for someone elderly to pass over anyhow.
That's my take on things anyway, tho I have little doubt a parental death might affect me badly...human nature, I suppose.

people are going to be overwhelmed with their own feelings, nobody's going to watch or ask how you feel about it. i have no grandparents already, they all died (in younger age and most of them unexpectedly). i find most difficult to watch my relatives grieving over the loss. seeing others to cry makes me cry too.

you have my condolences.

All my grandparents have died: i went to the funerals. Most of my other relatives went to view the body beforehand in the funeral parlour. I never did this, but there are no right or wrong things to do.

You have my sympathy and condolences, I have been through the same thing, also lost my mum, but I got over both losses very quickly, haven't gotten upset over people's death so much, I guess I just don't linger in the past.

I'm very sorry to hear the lost of your Grandfather. Death can be a strange thing sometimes. People react differently to death. Some people get very upset, some people get shocked, some people get angry and some people just accept it. Many folks have a combination of feelings. For some people everything comes out after the death one is buried.

I'm shaky towards death because once someone dies you will never see that person again. I lost many relatives over the years. I had various feelings of sadness, shock and even depressed feelings. I never really cried yet over the death of someone but I was pretty upset and shaken. I think I would be very upset if one of my parents die because I still live with them and I'm really close to them.

It's gets a little awkward going to a wake or funeral because sometimes it's hard to figure how to act, how to control your emotions towards the situation, meeting people you haven't seen in years and handling the emotions of other people around you.

My condolences to you and your family during these times.
