Wasps keep getting in the house. Cow Kitty chases and beats them down and I hide until the wasp lands where I can smash it. But this can't go on forever, eventually I'm going to get stung by one of these things and that will end with a trip to the hospital if not my death. What can I do about these things?

Spray them?

An occasional one can be dealt
with with a sword though.

Sanding them pisses them off.

That's no more a solution than smashing them is.

i guess you will look like your avatar then... well, a wasp had never got me when i didn't move. it doesn't attack without a reason. i usually catch it alive into a glass and release it back to the freedom :)

Cow Kitty gives them the reason. Though I don't trust them anyways.

Spraying them is a good plan - there are some pretty effective sprays for wasps and other flying insects available.

I know that bees, when squashed, give of a signal (inaudible to humans) which summons other bees to their defence. I don't know if wasps do the same, but after my Dad once squashed a wasp and we then ended up with loads of wasps in the house, I suspect that this may be the case with wasps too.

So spraying is probably safer than squashing.

It might be worth looking at why they are coming into your house. Is there a wasp nest anywhere? If so, you need to get a professional to remove it.

Are there lots of flowers or sweet things near doors or windows?

Smoke has a 'calming' effect on wasps, but the downside is that your house will get really smoky and also setting things alight to generate smoke in the first place can be a little risky.....

So I guess some decent spray and checking for nests etc is the best advice I can think of for now.

Good luck - I hate wasps!

A hose will take down the nest.
Pisses them off, but they leave
eventually. Had to take out nests
a decent amount, when painting.
First spray the nest pretty heavily
(you don't want just a can for this,
you can rent a decent dispenser
at a hardware store, if you don't
otherwise have one), then when
they're sick from the spray, go at
it at close range with the hose.

Remember to wear some netting, or
you might get stung a couple of times.
I never really worried about it, but
some people don't like it much.

Do you know where they keep getting in from?

Seal wherever they can get in, or lace entry points with anti-insect powder. Solved.

Most wasps are capable of burrowing through
wood. If they want in, they'll find a way.

Perhaps there is something that attracts them in the house. However, are we sure ahayes' house is made of wood? Ah yes, someone already mentioned that. Sweet things attract them.

I know people who are allergic to bees keep an adrenaline hypodermic syringe nearby. Not sure if that applies to wasps.

Find the nest and have it removed by a professional.

It does according to google. You will need another smaller syringe for your cat.

Why pay an arm and a leg for
something which is so simple?

Check all your window and door screens. See if they always appear in the same area to get a clue where they are coming from then block it. On screens you can just tape around the edge if they are loose or put tape over small holes. Make sure door closers shut the doors all the way.

Seconded. Sounds like you have a nest in your walls or something.
