Summer solstice is looming, which is in 2 days (21st June). I don't like this day, because it means the nights will be getting longer after that. I know it's gradual, but it's still happening, and suddenly people say "oh I started to notice the nights drawing in" when July has barely begun. So depressing. I hate the dark. I work evenings, and having it light until 10pm is very helpful. I wish it stayed the same all year round.

Does anyone else hate summer solstice? The nights drawing in a minute or two is upon us. Oh, God! :x :(

Yes, I'm with you there, Joe90. I don't want people repeatedly giving me premonitions of winter's gloom (and SAD for me, too.) I know some people who start with it as soon as the Spring Equinox has passed; "only X weeks until the nights start drawing in" - I wish they'd just keep it to themselves, and I tell them so.

I hate June in general. Maybe because very bad things in my life happened in June. It's also the time when I'm tired and the chaos of summer holidays start.

There's something incredible atavistic about all such days, for me. I feel like getting the train down to Stonehenge.

Stonehenge will be crowded.
Go seek the fern flower instead!

I agree with you, Joe 90. Even though I like the summer season (in regards to temperatures because I like warm weather, but not over-the-top hot), it's annoying when I'm reminded of the changing of the seasons.

I also hate it whenever I wait for a bus or train to get to and/or from school while in the dark even if I have classes during the day which in turn is one reason why I only take one class per term.

LOL, you know my country better than I do; I've never been there before, or even seen it in the flesh.

I am a summer person and I love the summer, just not the nights drawing in...which happens in summer.
It's the autumn/fall I hate. Summer is stale by then, the grass is covered in dead leaves, the flowers have all died, and it's the onset of winter. And the winter seems to drag on forever. The spring just flies by, and the whole summer you just see the days getting shorter. It doesn't seem fair. The summer should mean long days all through, and start drawing in after Autumn has begun.

June 21, the summer solstice, is my birthday.

It's ironic because I am adverse to sunlight, I feel sick during daylight savings, and I'm the opposite of Joe90 for many sensory reasons pertaining to sunlight. I don't mind warm or hot weather in the summer, but the longer days are very wearisome for me and I have to spend a lot of time indoors with polarised glasses.

The good news about summer solstice for me (and, my birthday treat) is that the days will start to get shorter. By November and December I'm in heaven with the darker evenings and the ability to step outside without feeling ill.

Make sure you read the terms and conditions <clicky> first!

I hate bright light including sunlight, that said we don't actually get that much sunlight in the UK so winter ends up bothering me more with light than summer. Because of people's annoying Christmas lights and fireworks (November/New Year).

The birds singing at 3am when I can't sleep are annoying though. Mostly because once I was a kid and I stayed up til 6 and my mum told me off for it and it reminds me of that.

Wow, it reads like it was written by one of Anthony Blair's civil servants.

I knew the culture-vandals had been at work on Stonehenge, anyway - my comment was mainly intended ironically. There's nothing to do at Stonehenge anymore except smell people's cannabis and listen to the motorways - like everywhere else in the English countryside.

For me the dread is in the dog days of summer approaching. Usually June is mild enough, but July and August are unpleasantly warm and by September I am looking forward the Autumn weather.

Maybe you should try Avebury, you can actually touch the stones there. Or you could, it's about 25 years since I was there at midsummer.

I have spent too long gazing deeply into the night sky to be afraid of the dark.

I've spent too long 'mooning' over failed politicians wondering in exasperation when this unhealthy charade will ever end. Hoping and praying that we 'Leave' on better terms, and when the rest of the world is in sight.
When I look upon a star I see Trump and Hunt drawing up deals together in the hindsight of National Health reform, and expansion of all trade sectors across the international and world stage.
