Is it just me or is this really dangerous?

OK first of all, I have trust issues because I got molested as a kid.

I'm going to stay at a retreat and they don't have locks on the doors of the hotel. Like the bathroom doors and the bedroom doors.

Is it just me or is that really dangerous and going to lead to someone getting raped?

I don't want to go to a place where a stranger might see me naked or be able to get into my bed when I'm asleep.

This is weird/red flag right?

I'm upset cos I really wanted to go but I'm not going if they can't sort out security.

If you gain access with a card, rather than a key, it’s better.

If a key is used, make sure there is a deadbolt lock, and an extra chain or something.

I am not here to increase your anxiety but you can buy a portable door lock that you can take anywhere for a tenner on Amazon

Or for the bedroom, if they have a chair I could use that.

It's not a card system, it's a nothing system. Like as if it's a house except we don't know each other and at home, my stepdad gets locked out of our bathroom even, we know he's not a predator but just to save embarrassment.

Should only have a nothing system in a house where you know everyone, even if there isn't a rapist, it will attract thieves.

I dont blame you for being scared. I was taken advantage of and now I no longer trust people. Not a bad idea to be concerned.

My mum said it's safe but she also said I could come back loaded from being a thief...

(because there are likely to be people reading this as aspie as I am - she was joking on that last bit)

When my daughter went off to college, she used one of these. If someone tries to get in, it sets off an audible alarm, that will wake you up.

You could also buy a pack of 2 locking doorknobs and a screw driver at a hardware store like Lowes and easily switch out the knob for your room and bathroom for one that locks. You won't be able to do a deadbolt lock, but you could do one of the door handle locks. They come with a couple keys so you can lock up your room when you leave.

I would not stay somewhere without locking doors unless it was me and my best friends (who are all female). I think that's super weird/questionable for a retreat center.

I mean I am kind of thinking maybe its better not to go, what sort of retreat is it?

Also how did you come to find there are no locks, that does seem weird.

I knew about the portable door lock but I'd never seen the door stop alarm before , it looks very useful.

Other than my own home, I would never ever go live (even temporarily) anywhere I couldn't lock my door.

Way too much bad stuff out there from thievery via rape to what used to be called happy slapping, and being spied on and any of it possibly streamed online to boot, and more.

Sometimes I even lock the door when I go down to 1st floor to check my mail.

I would def recommend the portable lock thing Ferris mentioned, or at the very least a door stopper.

A saw a movie where someone rigged a shotgun to the doorknob...

But I think Ferris's suggestions should suffice.

No locks - weird. And kinda creepy.
