I had a bad meltdown at work Wednesday, not the worst by far (December 12, 2012, one still haunts me) but I made an ass of myself and feel so embarrassed. I'd say this is the worst one in recent memory. For reference, I work on a receiving dock.

Things were a little rough from the get-go, at the start of the shift but by mid-shift things took a proverbial nosedive quick. It just seemed like everything was going wrong all of a sudden. People putting their stuff in the way where I needed to put mine. The last person at my work area left a mess and didn't clean up, this one machine we use kept screwing up like it always does, the door to the semi-trailer jammed and I can't remember the rest.

I could feel pressure start to build and I am sure some of you know what I mean. Next thing I know, I lost my s*** in epic fashion.

There was yelling and swearing. " Are we gonna f--- everything up today, what don't they fix this GD MF'er! F this! F this! I stepped outside and was shaking, I could feel the inside of my head pulsating. After I calmed down I felt ok but very tired. I made it through the day and went to bed when I got home.

I guess what I'm getting at is, I feel so embarrassed and feel like a fool. Now this could be my own paranoia but someone from HR on Friday was walking around in my department. I think someone told on me but I cannot be sure. If I were to have gotten drug into HR, I imagine it would have happened by now. None of my 3 managers said anything to me.

I'm hoping Monday nothing happens. I've had meltdowns worse than this at work, but it has not happened on a major level in a good while.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience. I have meltdowns at work too that I find difficult to control, once I get wound up.

Someone has to really trigger me to cause a meltdown. Like if I'm blamed for something I didn't do, treated unfairly, picked upon, bullied, or in trouble because of forgetting to follow some dumb health and safety rule. I just get angry and wish I didn't have to work at all.

I've had a panic attack a few times at work, where I've stormed into the office and cried openly. The men working in there probably think I'm a right drama queen or that I'm overreacting or something. It's not that I do it for attention or sympathy though. Well, when I'm having a meltdown the first thing I do is go to find someone I trust to unburden myself to (which is to break down and cry uncontrollably), so obviously I do want comfort and reassurance, but I mean it's still not the same as attention-seeking.

Attention-seeking is where you're not really feeling the emotion as strongly as what you're showing, for the purpose of gaining attention and sympathy.
A meltdown or panic attack is not attention-seeking if you're genuinely feeling the emotion you are showing. So there's a huge difference, and what you and me do is NOT attention-seeking.
