I drew the genealogical tree of my extended family, 3 generations, including my grandparents and their siblings, my parents' siblings and their spouses and children. I colored all names that were involved in serious theft among family members, either as the perpetrators or as their victims. That left me with 1 or 2 uncolored names, of whom at least I haven't heard any stories.

Nowadays when someone asks me "Do you have any contact with family?", I answer: "Thank God, no."

I wonder what proportion of families are like mine in this regard...?

"Other" because I don't really know.
But I don't think it's as bad as for your family :?

I don't know my extended family. Dad was in Navy and even though he and Mom were from the Ozark Hills, the Navy doesn't do much business there in the mountains for reasons I still don't understand.
So my brother and I grew up a half-continent away on both coasts.

And I still live at least 3 hours away from any extended family.

The one thing I know of is while still married my brother's ex ended up wanted by law enforcement on two continents (think two, at least one) for the shenanigans she pulled while he was off on deployment. (Judge granted that divorce on the spot!)

Topic question is "among" extended family, which can be interpreted 2 ways:
1. theft among family members - as one from another.
2. theft among family members - as a member among the family who has engaged in theft.
I'm employing both interpretations.

It's not as pervasive in my extended family, but my uncle has committed some criminal acts such as using the identities of the deceased for financial gain. He also ripped people off within the family (my parents because they are easy targets). Being a crook doesn't make him or his son happy; they are both miserable and one took to drinking after financial losses.
