I always seem to change my mind, when I plan to spend a night that's not a Friday, at my mum's house. I get to her house, and than I think about going out with my friends, in the evening. My mum gets frustrated, when I decide to go home, after supper. She b*****s that I always do that. To be honest with you, staying over on Sunday night, isn't the same as staying over on a Friday of a Saturday night. I get unlimited access to the Internet, if I say over on a Friday, and I get Sunday to myself, if I stay over on a Saturday. Saturday nights are also that much more fun, because I can hear my dad cheering on the Canucks from the couch, downstairs. I don't get that same excitement on a Sunday night. Another issue that I have, is that I don't feel that I can be on WrongPlanet, when I'm using my dad's computer. My mum was looking over my shoulder, asking what I was looking at. I've told her that it was a message board, and than she just rolled her eyes at me. luckily, I didn't tell her that it's WrongPlanet, and I do erase all of the history that's created from my posts, before I exit Fire Fox. When I have to get something, or let the dog out, I cover this website, with the site for The Weather Network, so that people think I'm looking at the weather, instead of posting here. What should I do?

Maby your mum like many concerned parents just want to know that your not up to no good. I have the same problem with my mum she sneaks upstairs where i am and looks over my shoulder at the screen. She doesent want me on sites with bad moral guidelines. So i tell her the truth like you did its a mssage board but than i add things like (which is not really lyeing) this is where super geniouse like myself go to share ideas and interests. You know nerdy stuff, it has really helped with my school work. Thats all you have to say. Maby your mum is new to the internet many older generations are, to gain her trust perhaps showing her yahoo answers (do u know what that is?) would help her understand is just another useful way of getting information.

The way iv gained a little respect from my parents is acting like an adult about things. It''s a part of having clean communication when you are honest but you dont have to say everything.

i'm a people person too... but how do you cope with the social difficulties and the sensory overload in social situations? it just kills me, not being able to connect to other people.... i get so lonely, and being around other people just makes me feel even lonelier, seeing them connect so easily....   being a people person i have a lot of social need, but i can't cope with the social situations, so my needs are never met :(

and please please please put your old avatar back, seeing you hugging your teddy made me smile every time :D

(m and m rap tune) Guess whos back?, back again
Teddys back, tell a friend

I only like to think im a people person, well i can be a people person only through not verbally talking to them but wrighting. Some of the qualitys of a real good communicator is having good listening skills. I try to be myself around others and voice my opinion if need be. I try to be flexible in the way of trying to understand the other persons feeling for example they may have broken up with someone i communicate and acknowlede what they may be feeling back to them Eg: 'so you must be feeling upset by this change in your relationship' I dont try to tell them to get over it cause this only reflects to them that i have not recognised their feelins and i dont care.

I am very quiet person among my friends but this isent such a bad thing im usually the one my friends will trust to go to when they experience problems cause they know i will not make a big deal out of them or unackowledge them what i would do is listen and that sometimes thats al they need is a shoulder to cry on.

I do feel lonely but you know what when im asked to go places with my friends i know i really do belong with them otherwise they would not invite me.

Remember the most powerful messages are non verbal, I know having AS is a barrior to communicating but it is one that you can learn to improve in through experience and also proffesional course.

What has helped me is
Social skills group run through my school
Assertiveness Training
Comminication ellectives
And support from my Special Education teacher who have always been mentors to me.

Im shore you do the best you can to listen, its understandable, that it is hard to listen without becoming overloaded by the amount of feelings other people share with u. Often the feelings of the person you are trying to help cause you to feel a part of this sensation. But this is also good it shows that you are a very compasionate person with a great capacity to love. But you have to think to yourself im a good listener and also practice the listening skills and give those non verbal sighns you are listening-

Try some of these (it's hard but not imposible)
- Eye contact
- Possitve head nod
- uncrossed arms, possitive body posture.
