Before now I've been slightly more balanced with some slight NT traits involved, but by the looks of things and more importantly - the 'feel' of things, I think I'm struggling more these days. And the above might be evident to this.

I'm curious - can certain experiences make you more autistic, or unlock more of it from within you?

I haven't heard this before. I don't think AS or NT can be triggered by individual events.

Thanks for the reply.
Would it help if I clarified? I mean - if you're already an aspie, which I am, then can trauma or other effects open up more of what may have already been there but not felt by me? If this makes sense?

I became extremely rigid after my first girlfriend cheated on me, and wanted to create an elite society of honest people.

Your original post didn't make sense to me but your clarification does.

I don't think that the events/experiences make you more or less autistic. I expect that stays pretty constant.

I do however think that events/experiences may alter your behavior in similar situations. In extreme cases, they may alter your day to day behavior too. This doesn't make you actually any more autistic but your behavior could be interpreted by others differently.

yes, I do think that life experiences can stamp upon you ways of behaving in situations whether you are AS or not. In situations where you would 'tend and befriend' and work out pretty well in social situations if your prior experiences has made your reaction 'fight or flight' you can really ruin a good thing by feeling terror rather than feeling secure.

I agree. I also know that when I get too excited about something major happening in my life
my concentration goes down. Also I get too much thinking on the current subject and pay less attention to the outside world. That obviously drives my acquired "NT" skills down.
I recently had that experience after I learned that both my 13 y.o. daughter and myself have

Where did you get the chart? Is it self trait rationalized by your observations. Or is it outwardly trait rationalized by anothers observations. OR a mixture of both. Or is a from something of an MRI (brain scan) if that is the word.

A test. Ok I know that tests don't always mean anything particularly conclusive.

Is it an online test...

I'd like a pretty chart too. :)

I think it's a given that certain events that evoke autistic symptoms, like a problem with bullying may make someone less social and introverted. But "autism" is an issue of neurobiology, and I think it's something you are born with.

If I were to suffer more traumas or bad experiences in my life, I would be more paranoid and even more depressed than I am today.

You know, I have been wondering about this recently myself.

I was thinking the other day that I don't remember thinking and acting the way I do now, say, six years ago. This could, however, just be a personal romanticization of my "previous" life that was created by the passage of time.

What I have curently chalked it up to, and I'm talking exclusively about social interaction with girls, is the end of each relationship i've had. It feels like those are the defining moment where I become more socially unacceptable with females.

So in short, I would say that no life experience *makes* you autstic, but right now I believe that life events can impact ones ability to, for lack of a better phrase, act NT

More autistic? Not sure. More withdrawn, yes.
