I haven't slept properly for two weeks, every night the amount that I sleep gets less and less. I slept for 3 hours last night.
I stopped my medication (olanzapine 10mg) very suddenly (in the space of one day) because the side-effects were driving me crazy, and I was mass-consuming apples to avoid the weight-gain (hunger attacks). I didn't gain weight luckily, but I felt like I had constant chronic fatigue syndrome and I was losing my mental abilities.
Anyway.
After having 3 hours of sleep, I woke up, and I felt completely wide awake. I got up, did some work, and then began to get progressively dizzy. I thought it was low blood sugar levels, so I ate some porridge. Now its got so bad that I can see some dots in my vision, and I am having palpitations, my heart is beating at 95 bpm resting heart rate (I am very fit and I normally have a resting heart rate of around 60 bpm), and it is pounding in my chest. I am not feeling panicky, just very nauseous. I cannot get to sleep as I am never tired. Its the 23rd of Dec and its a Sunday, so none of my doctors are at work (that is partly why I hate weekends and holidays). I don't know what to do. My heart is dying.

I'm incredibly sorry for you. Maybe you're having a hot flush or something, although it's only a wee suggestion. It's just whenever my mum (who is quite old) gets a hot flush, she feels very hot, dizzy and gets a really bad headache. Dizziness is a sympton you have mentioned which might be included in hot flushes.

Anyway, it's only a wee suggestion. Is there anything on the internet that could help you or something?

Thanks, its ok, I think its getting better now.
It wasn't a hot flush, as I didn't feel hot, but I think that I need neeed need to get some sleep.
I feel like I'm relapsing, that's the bad thing. This is what always happens in my relapses, my sleep deteriorates to zero, and then other stuff happens later.

I'm so sorry that you had that scare. I can't imagine what that might feel like.

As for your meds, definitely talk about changing it with your psychiatrist.

Its ok, thank you.
My psychiatrist said that its fine for me to stop my meds. He said he was "confident".
But I'm not going back on them. No way. Psychiatric medication = evil.

SteelMaiden, I know nothing about this sort of thing (well, maybe some, but nevermind). However, I think the immediately, and very real concern, is your physical well-being right now! Are you ok? You mentioned your heart, disturbing physical symptoms.....this should be addressed now, not later! If you're feeling physical distress, can you go to the ER? Really, a heart attack/stroke (this is just an example, based on what you've shared) is serious and should be treated asap. I am worried about you.

I usually do not interfere (and I am not, really), nor am I one to overreact to health problems (myself, I rarely see a medical doctor), but you sound...NOT WELL! If your heart 'feels weird, etc." please see a medical doctor! Nothing to play around with....please post back and tell us you're safe. I hope you feel better really soon.

Heart palpatations in and of themselves (especially if you've stopped meds very suddenly are not that big a deal). The big deal is, that they might be indicitive of something else (I don't mean a serious disease, but I do mean life threatening). You should be seeing a doctor anyway, because they have instruments you don't have. The meds might be nasty and evil, but stopping them suddenly (as far as I've ever been told) can make serious problems with your blood pressure. That's only some meds, but even the idea of fooling around with palpitations is taking a big chance.

Actually, 95 is okay, 80 is normal in women, and it depends on a number of things (how tall you are, how you're built, and what you're normal pulse is). It's your pressure I'd worry about, and those little machines they sell in drug stores are not a good idea if you're doing anything buy ongoing monitoring. There are also some other questions I'd ask you, were I a doctor, but I'm not. See a doctor.

Also, remember, that the more you worry about it, the more your body is going to produce adrenalin, and the faster your heart is going to go. Also, heart rate is dependent on blood oxyxgen level....and a few other blood chemestry things.

only practical suggestion (sorry if you know this one already) is to cough. coughing can sometimes reset the heart onto a normal rhythm. well it works for me anyway.

You're heart isn't dying. I have heart arrhythmia and high blood-pressure myself. You do, however, need to see a cardiologist as soon as possible.

It very well could be just a side effect of stopping the medication, withdrawal side effects of Zyprexa or olanzapin:

"Common withdrawal symptoms include difficulty sleeping. They could also include sweating, tremor, vomiting, anxiety, insomnia, and muscle pain."

Also..."can cause extreme low blood pressure, increased heart rate, dizziness, and in rare cases, a tendency to faint when first standing up."

http://www.monheit.com/zyprexa/Zyprexa_withdrawal.shtml

I would however, get in touch with your Dr. ASAP and let him know what's going on.

Yes, I hope that it is nothing serious. I think it could be the medication and not sleeping. And I do have diagnosed arrhythmias (I've lost the ability to spell now).

Although my metabolism has gone through the roof recently and I've lost weight.

Have you made an appointment with a cardiologist yet?
