I'm getting a life soon but I might be hurting my parents.

I'm going down to Houston in a few days to live with Adverb and Rexmas in Adverb's house. It's his parents' house but they have another house in another state that they live in and own or manage a hotel besides. Adverb's house has 4 bedrooms and so we'll each have our own, and MADDuck also lives in Houston but in his apartment closer to where he works, so I'll be seeing a lot of him too. MADDuck and I have been talking on the phone for months and he's talked to my mother at length several times, and I've talked to two of his coworkers at Velocity Express, where I know he works and they say it's his real name. Besides that, his real name is on his Velocity Express email. My mother did a search on some directory thing on the internet, though, and all the Christian Duckworths in Houston are 39 years old, not 35 like he says he is. My mother didn't want me to call him every day because she thought if I started hanging out with him less because I started school again he might get mad "and you know what? He mentioned once that he had a gun. I don't like that."

She doesn't know yet how close I am to Adverb. I'm closer to him now than I am to Christiaan (MADDuck). He's the best friend I ever had. And Rexmas too; I think it was him and GoatOnFire and I who once said we were "partners in crime" because of our ideations the three of us used to have before we came to WP. Rexmas will fly in whenever we're ready; his father works for an airline so he gets free tickets; he's been to Mexico and all 50 states and the only reason he hasn't been around the world is because he doesn't have a passport yet.

Adverb is starting a business/charity to raise funds for an Aspie commune, where we sell all kinds of stuff with AS-themed slogans and pictures, and do a whole bunch of other stuff too to raise awareness and funds. He's done jsut about everything and we'll have the business within 2 weeks. I really do want to do this, but my parents will be really upset because they want me to go to school. They probably won't think this will work out. At Adverb's house it's free room and board; our jobs will simply be organizing and coming up with stuff for the commune and putting up posters, going to walks and rallies, starting websites and boards and looking for land and stuff.

I have an apointment at the college on Monday and I want to spend the weekend with my parents before I go but what if thye're suspicious because I'm suddenly so clingy to them? I could send them lots of letters and postcards, but would that be the same? would my mother come down and do everything in her power to get me back up there if I asked her to send my meds down to me?

That's why I'm not sure what day to leave. Should I go to the meeting at the college for possible admission? Should I spend the weekend with my parents? My dad works a lot anyway; he might decide to be working all weekend anyway but should I spend Saturday and Sunday with my mom and then when she's sleeping leave to the bus station and all her when I've arrived in Houston?

I don't want them to think I'm a loser, going nowhere, at risk, irresponsible, immamture, falling in with the wrong crowd, no common sense, street mentality, lowlife, mentally challenged, asking for it, gullible fool, handicapped by impulsiveness, a lazy loser, making excuses, etc.

I'll show them this thread maybe. I dunno.

Oh yeah, and we all plan to meet together at the bus station. All 4 of us.

You know what, Ana? You are 20 years old. You're an adult. You can make your own choices and your parents can't always force you to do what you don't want. However, your family will ALWAYS be there for you while friends come and go. Trust me on that! Also, how do plan on going to Houston from Vancouver?

I honestly think that Adverb will be by friend for life, and maybe the others too. I feel like Adverb is my brother. In many ways we're closer to each other than we are to our parents. Yes, I KNOW I've only been talking to him for a week, but we've had more, and more meaningful, conversation in that one week than I've had with my parents in the last 2 years, maybe 3. Well, more like, I've had more meaningful converstion with Adverb than I've ever had with anyone at all, and more connversation than I had with my parents in the last 2 years.

You can't hang onto your parents forever.

My mom has fully accepted that my sister is moving Alaska, and I'm going on harvest run come 2009. It does make her sad, but you know... kids grow up, they make their own lives, and parents have to realize that sooner or later.

Good luck, Anna. I hope you like Texas. I suspect you won't. Hang onto your status as a foreign national. Things are getting kind of scary here.

If you're 20, you should move out. But you're going to have to come up with a way of stopping yourself from going home for the first couple of months.....unless you've lived on your own. Room mates are a real experience.

Again, best of luck.

Btdt

I hope I don't make them sad. I'll make sure I don't make them sad. Thanks, guys. :)

Of course MaDDUCK has a gun. He lives in Texas - I think they issue one to you when you enter the state! :)

I know he does. He was in the military. He also has a permit to carry a concealed pistol. :)

LOL. Someone (not in the group I plan to meet) told me to steer clear of Tim_Tex because he seems like such a predator, and I'm trying to get Tim to join us anyway... Adverb is suspicious of MADDuck and says he'll protect me from him and MADDuck is suspicious of Adverb and says he'll protect me from him.
